Hey it's mau5y...i hoped everyone like my work with the evil mau5 head i did.
Now i'm going to make the white mau5 head with the pink eyes...i will attempt to do a better build description in this thread as how to make a mau5. If you you haven't seen my evil mau5 head check it out. here (scroll all the way down):

http://www.therpf.com/f24/deadmau5-head-my-creation-102553/

i'll keep all you posted on the white mau5 head :D

Eyes, lip, fabric, foam for lip, double sided tape, bolt studs with fasteners.

-eyes are 4 5/16" acrylic domes spray painted with a dull pinkish enamel

-fabric is a sweat pants material

-foam is about 1/4" thick, and will be used for the lip (NOTE: other mau5 heads have a thicker lip but the white mau5 head like the blue mau5 head have thinner lips)

-I will show you what the tape will be used for when i get the 14" golbe in the mail lol

-Bolt studs will be used for attaching the ears and helmet to the globe

more updates coming soon, hope everyone gets the info they need

Mouth shots...you can see i cut some spots on the wire mesh (1/2" used), and then folded them over to attempt to make a curve. This is one version, i'mma try the hammering method. I'll just hammer the mesh to curve it.

The dark picture is a through shot. So if you think about it, it will be dark enough in the mau5 head to see through it. I will try different materials though. I used a regular plain white-T for the mouth right now lol

BTW...feel free to ask questions :D...i will try to answer them in a timely manner and the best way i can

OK this is my attempt at the hammering method
I used the same 1/2" inch wire mesh but i cut it diagonally so that it would be easy to hammer to a curve.

NOTE: i used a rubber mallet

I tried it out on some smaller extra pieces first

and it worked...the way i hammered the mesh was very softly and in a pulling method towards me. Using the edge of the mallet too. Not too hard cause then you can ruin the mesh.

Now i did it on the big piece for the mouth...remember, hammer very softy, almost just let it fall instead of you forcing it. Oh and wear gloves too cause you might get cut a little. Hold the mesh from the center and kinda just rotate it too when you pound it.

So far so good...kept pounding it for about 5 minutes until i got a decent enough curve
The longside edges of the mesh i had to push together.

So the edges became the shape of diamonds instead of squares. I did this so i can get the horizontal "curve-around".

NOTE: You might get cut so wear gloves (i got a little cut up but not too bad)

Now we gettin' somewhere...push the edges a little more as you desire, maybe a little pounding here and there for refining...AND TADAAAA!!!

Curved mesh for your mau5 head!!!

Hope it helps 8:D

NOTE: getting the globe on monday from Fedex (more updates coming)

thanks :D

UPDATE:
Alrighty,...when planning the mouth out, hopefully the globe you ordered has a molding line going a cross is. Normally 95% of the time that will be the direct center of the globe...trace it with a marker so you can see it better.

Ok the circumfrence of the globe is about 22 1/4 inches. If you cut the top of the mouth at 22 inches on the line, it will look way to big. So i did 21 inches. Then find the center point of the line go down about 6 inches. That usually is the height of the mouth. Or you can print a protractor pic and fold it to a 50 degree angle and place on each side and draw the line going diagonally.
***IMPORTANT***
make sure you have a 2 inch to 2 1/1 inch gap from the neck hole to the bottom of the mouth other wise the bottom of the mouth is a bit flimsy and will break.
Now use all of these reference points on your globe and use tape to connect from end to end on the top of the mouth lineing up with the bottom point of the mouth.
THE CUT :D

I spray painted the globe white cause i really wanted the white to show, and i spray painted the inside black cause i wanted maximum visibilty through the mouth.

Now for those who got a globe with a molding line going vertically instead of horizontally. Don't worry, there is still a way to cut the mouth lol
The molding line will stop at the very top point of the globe...you'll notice like a dot at the top of the globe...just make lines going down from that center point at 10 1/2 inches...do this all around and then just connect the bottom points of the lines going across. and TADAAAA!!! :D top part of the mouth

EARS:

Everyone has different forms of ears. But if you want a simple way to do i got 2 ways.
You can use whatever material you want, i used floor foam boards
1) The easy way: i have a pdf file you can use...it's a four page cut-out for the ears (use this as your template)

2) The other way is to use a compass and draw a circle on the floor foam thats 14" in diameter, then kinda take off about a 1/2 inch from the sides cause the dimensions for the ears are 13" by 14"(so like an oval shape....sorta)...this is the more difficult way so feel free to use either method.

NOW:
You can use 1 piece of floor foam for each ear but i must warn you, good luck on trying to make the fabric on the ears look nice lol...so i doubled the foam on the ear. So technically i cut out 4 ears to use 2 for each ear. Check the pics for reference.

STUDS:
if you notice i used extra mesh wire and ran the 6" studs through the middle...WHY? Once i sandwich the ears together and stick the studs through bottom, and press on the ear and then PULL slightly (not too much) and the angled wires will get caught in between the 2 pieces of foam

EARS HOLES ON GLOBE
The ear holes on the mau5 head are simple to do...From the ends of the top of the mouth, go about 1/2 inch from the ends and draw a line going up to that center point dot thing on top of the globe...then next thing is just eye balling where the studs will be and then drill the holes.

NOw that all of this is done...get some screws for the eye balls about 3 inches ling with some fasteners...drill holes where eyes would go...the eyes are about 1 inch from the top of the mouth and 2 to 2 3/4 inches from the ears. Of course this is to the edge of the 4 1/4 inch domes :D.

The Cloth, well theres several ways to do it. You can use lycra fabric and wrap it all the way around. which will work, but will take about maybe couple hours cause you wan tot be careful not to crack the globe. i did the half and half method...cut a big enough piece of fabric (4 way stretch is a must), and placed on the top half first and cut the fabric about a little less than half way...This is where that tape came in handy cause i laid the double sided tape from end to end from the corners of the mouth. So when i stretched it over, it was able to stick to the tape and i just took a razor blade and cut below the tape.

I used the exact same method for the bottom half too...i laid an extra piece of tape over also, so it kinda over laps.

Place you mouth wire mesh thing inside at an angle and then....TADAAAAA!!!
Your deadmau5 head is complete!!!
Hope everyone got the info they needed :D

I might change out the ears in a couple weeks...make them a little more round :D

I'm sure you have probably seen this already, but good look at the chrome head for reference i guess.

The white head is looking really good, can't wait to see this finished.

Just wondered how you are planning to chrome the next head. I have my 1911 I want to chrome for a Sucker Punch prop, not sure I want to go the spray can route, also not sure i want to get it professionally chromed when the airsoft gun only cost £25.

Sorry for all the questions but where did you get the globe or what was it before hand, looks about the right size for a Bioshock big sister helmet.

Cheers

yeah no problem i'm happy to answer your questions :D.

The globe i got from 1000bulbs.com through their amazon link...globe cost me $20 USD. plus shipping of course lol. The diameter of the globe is 14" inches which was posted on deadmau5 facebook :D (super nice of him).

Now the chrome head i have it all figured out. Have you ever heard of garden gazing globes? Well some are made of glass, and others are made of steel. very few companies make 14" gazing globes but i found a company in seattle that sells the 14" ones. The ears i will make out of sheet of steel that is 4 feet by 4 feet. I found the sheet at hardware store for $20. And the i have a friend who is willing to weld the ears and eyes for me. Then once everything is attached i have another friend thats willing to chrome it for me for $100. Steel is the best material to chrome.

NOTE: You CAN chrome plastic. You just gotta find the right chrome plating place that does it and that does a good job.
here some websites i found for the UK
Leading Electroplating Specialists Providing Chrome Plating On Plastics - www.qppltd.co.uk
borough, finishers, plastics, southend on sea, south east , UK, chrome, plating, moulders, platers, electroplating, ABS
DMS Plastics: Home

best thing to do is to call and ask how much they charge...but if all fails, use the silver spray paint with some clear coat to give it a nice sheen to your prop.
hope that helps :D

Thanks for the links mau5y, will be checking those places to see if they will be happy to chrome my 1911.

Already a huge Volpin fan, he's actually the guy who got me interested in this which led me to eventually find this forum.

Few projects that I should finnish first before considering the next but thanks for the links to 1000bulbs been looking for something like those acrylic globes for ages.

Cheers
