I love the Terra Nova series, and Nathaniel Taylors or Commander Taylors desk is the most badass prop.
Basically the top half of a dinosaur skull and a glass plate, very hard to make for a person though

Can't vouch for the truth of this but hey, it happens to antiques. Someone dies, their relatives don't realise that Rembrandt is the real thing, it goes to the op shop...

I have heard something similar too. I think it is true. It seems the companys dont care about their props? They dont know how much it is worth? Or they dont have the time to deal with this?
