What's your biggest prop regret or guilt?

Using the money I had saved up to buy my ***** of an ex-fiancee's engagement ring instead of buying screen used Mulder and Scully badge wallets.

As O' Blue Eyes said, Regrets? I've had a few... :lol

Biggest one lately is kinda dumb, but it's also what I tend to slam my little piggy against when I walk through the kitchen. I spent 60$ at a pawn shop for a drill press last year that I have NEVER used.

I bought it with the express idea of making a singular prop, from an anime that I liked but have no other props from.

I could have just commissioned the piece for about 30-40$ and been ok with that, but NNOOOO didn't think that far ahead.

There are a few others, but nothing quite as annoying as continually smashing my toe on that *******. Once I get my bench done though, it's going in the room, so that's nice. I might even attempt to make that prop.

I'm pretty sure there are others, but that's the biggest in my mind right now, cause my foot hurts :angry

Mine is not buying the efx and/or the Master Replicas Mark IX tricorder when they were in production. They are pretty expensive on the resale market right now... They would have been a good investment.

The ass who offered LOTR United Cutlery swords etc at a discount... Took me (and others) for a lot of money!!!:unsure

Yep. That still stings. But I have two other regrets; not putting down the money for the model 47 run when I had the chance:facepalm and selling off my NuBSG kit (flightsuit, helmet, gear, everything...) to finance another costume years ago.

Oh, god-I still feel bad about this one: my ex and I were having problems and she wanted me to--ahem--"grow up" and get rid of my geeky collections (original comic art and screen-used props) and even change my career. I seriously considered changing my career, and I started reluctantly selling off things to try to maintain the peace. She dumped me anyway, but not before I had sold almost all of my comic art and three of my best screen-used props: a white-painted rubber Galactica gun from the original series, a black fiberglass BSG gun, and a hero Buck Rogers Laser Pistol. I had originally bought those pieces way back in the pre-Planet Hollywood days when they were way cheaper and easier to pick up. I just couldn't afford them now if I had the chance to buy them back (the guy who bought them passed away a few years ago and I have no idea what happened to his props, except for the Buck gun, which has turned up in the possession of someone here on the rpf)! Considering how things worked out, I should have just kept the props and art--they weren't the real problems in the relationship. The fact that she didn't like me as is--geekiness and all--was the real problem!

i got one for you... so a friend of mine tracked down some tk armor that was a crappy pull from the sheparton studios in th UK, i dont know the full shory on the armor it was his gig, anyway so we get all the armor pieces they are think plastic, aged and just in crappy shape, we spend several months repairing them tracking down everyone that ever used the armor or built it, got the ok to pull a cast from it and use onhis vac table, NOT TO RESELL but to wear and keep for our personal collection... well after getting all the bits and pieces looking good i dumped a few hudred bucks and good mold material... cleaned up the molds casted them in hydracal and before they were about to go to the vac table my friend decides he doesn't want anyone to wear "his work"... it wasnt the money or the prop itself, it was the time and effort and the joint venture we had that ended up getting ruined when all was said and done, thats my regret.

Oohh my! this is a sad story!! no girl is worth getting rid of all the cool stuff you may have. Anyway, a lesson learned the hard way, and a lesson for everyone else about what should not be done.

So far my biggest regret is not buying two National Treasure Olmec planks for sale in the Junkyard a while back. I had just purchased a Sarednab/Tazvader National Treasure Book Of Secrets and was a little low on cash. Now no one has any planks for sale. I'm not giving up hope as I've learned that eventually whatever you want will show up if you're patient. In the meantime, if anyone has a National Treasure Olmec plank you're willing to part with send me a PM.

Someone was offering the planks the other day weren't they?!?!?!

My biggest regret is, as has been said by a few is not getting into the scene/hobby/mindset until recently.
I love films and have never really looked into props but dreamt of the various armours, blaster, nik naks out there.

I am more than happy that I have given a work colleague (majorly into Jaws) a Police patch, the free shark evidence pic posted on here and just the buzz I get from making something I can relate to or link to a film

My biggest regret is to have gotten into this hobby in the first place :lol

Yes that did cross my mind from time to time, but I've really gotten a lot of enjoyment out of this hobby, and have met some great friends because of it.

Made some noob mistakes when I first started, but I chalk that up as 'paying tuition' to learn the ways and intricacies of this hobby.

I'm liquidating my entire collection now so I'll let you guy know if I regret it when its all gone :D

Missing on a fantastic MPP flash Vader conversion lightsaber, with a great price too, a couple years ago. since then I've seen some others for for 2-3 times that price. A MPP Vader lightsaber would be my only lightsaber in my collection excepting the 2 Force FX Vader ones.

My biggest regret....giving an expensive Mark X tricorder I built to a now ex girlfriend......I will NEVER do that again!

I think I have to group of all of my mistakes into one large one. When I started, I had communication issues from stress, took money for props before I had them in hand, and had complete misunderstandings about recasting. But now, all things are so much better, all props showing step by step, have everything ready to ship before I ask for payment, and no longer take any risks with props, and am happy to pass on wisdom to all :D

Basically, made stupid beginner mistakes without researching first. A hard lesson learned! Also, wish I took more detailed pics at the Star Wars exhibit when it was in town.

I haven't been building for to long (considering I’m still just a teenager), but I have learned a few props should just not be attempted unless you have the true tool for the job.
So far my biggest prop regret is trying to recreate the Jurassic Park Barbasol Cryo-can. I though I could shape the internal components out of wood… lets just say after me and my dad spent $100 or so and the thing looked like crap, we just decided to throw that stupid thing in our use later bin.
Ended up using the discs I made for wheels on another project, the spare cut offs became firewood.
I would still love to make or even buy the prop but to build it I would need a computerized CNC machine, and I just don’t currently have the money to buy some of the ones I’ve found online.

I think my biggest regret is not getting more of the Master Replica Star Wars props when they were originally offered. At the time it wasn't a lack of funds, it was just of interest since I've always been more into Star Trek props. Now you can rarely find anything for a decent price and even then you have to worry about getting ripped off.

Not simply shelling out the cash I had at the time for the white Computer Space from Soylent Green. Still not happy I missed that.

Paying $350 upfront for a salacious crumb from a local guy after seeing his workshop and props. After 6months asked for money back and he moved towns.

Got the Police involved and they said 'oh yeah we know about him, but nothing we can do as he tells them he didn't recieve any money or already sent the item'.

Has now ensured that I pay electronically (for record keeping) and deposit first and full amount on recieving/completion of the item.

Cheezes me off seeing him work under different names on the internet and know he still works from a shop front (a long way away).
