As a kid watching Empire I always thought to myself, "Dude! Should you really be chasing bounty in your condition?!" Say what you will, but the guy's head is bandaged up. Oh sure, some people will say it's part of his gear, but REALLY! Look at him!
So what's the "official" story?

I've got no idea what the real reasons were for him to be so banged up looking, but here's something I found...

From the Expanded Universe

The Corellian was once a daring swoop-racer until a competitive rival named Han Solo cut his career short. Although it was Dengar who was at fault -- he crashed his swoop into Solo's vehicle -- he blamed Han for the debilitating cranial trauma that followed. Dengar was patched together by agents of the Empire and transformed into a remorseless killer. The bio-implants that replaced damaged flesh stripped all emotion from Dengar, save for hatred and a burning need for revenge.

Maybe that day on the DS he forgot to set his alarm and woke up late. Or maybe the AM/PM button got him, anyway he could of been having a bad hair day and just threw the bandages on because he didn't want to look bad in front on Vader and " the other guys" .

As a kid, I always thought it was toilet paper. I guess it was a good thing since you never know when you will run out

I never thought it was wrapped bandages, I always thought it was a hood, part of the fabric suit he wears under his armor.

Vader knew who he was looking for, maybe he hired a guy he knew was motivated.

What do you think he did, put an ad in the Pennysaver?

He did warn "no disentigrations". Clearly he had history with some of them.

Dengar comes from a race known as the worst shavers in the universe. It is indeed toilet paper on his head.

The Empire docs must have made a second pass. In Jabba's palace in ROTJ, he's 70 pounds lighter and 20 years younger. ;)

Regardless of what the "real" reason is, can we all at least agree that the costume designers dropped the ball on this one?

Yeah so Dengar had a personal grudge against Solo, but he must not have gotten very far. It was the first and last time we saw him, hahahaha!

When the movie was made, nothing was meant to be disected through the use of the latest technology though. ;)

I do agree, though. Even being on screen for a few seconds, that didn't spell "dangerous" or anything except "why would someone leave the house in such poor shape?!?"
