Finally started in on a mini nuke from Fallout 3. I'm debating whether to start a thread on it now or when I finish. And I always hear this song in my head when I work on it.

My work bench....

I'm trying to find the proper voltage for my collection of Hallmark Star Trek ornaments. Seems they need more power than this little light string provides. I want to put them inside a display with their own lights active.

Another project that I wasted time on today was this ceiling lamp for my gaming area. It actually works pretty good. Neon is from a $10 clock I got from Wal-Mart. When not using the actual light for the room, flick the ceiling fan switch and the neon comes on. The clock was a POS but I didn't want to trash the neon.

I really don't want you to go through too much trouble! :lol I love the glowing effect, I just can't tell from the pics where the source is coming from. Which I suppose is the idea!

OK, here is what I call the "Ceiling Orb" project...

Take a neon light from a $10 Wal-mart clock. Insert it into a household ceiling fixture. Some minor cutting is required. Use a Dremel tool for this.

Arrange the neon circuitry so it fits in the ceiling fixture. You may have to use a spacer or cut some drywall out. Tuck it up in there. You can use female blade connectors for the power supply hook-up to the ceiling fan light switch. You need this for it to work independent from the room light. I used heat shrink to make sure no areas were exposed.

Test it to make sure it works. I removed the fluorescent lamps for this demo.

Re-install it on the ceiling...

Thank you very much! That looks like maybe even I could do it! (And the pictures made it clear why I wasn't "getting" it before. I had the impression I was looking at the inside of a dome, not the outside, so I couldn't figure out where the light was coming from. This makes it all so clear!

i have a few projects on the go, ghoulies toilet monster sculpt, reaper bust from blade 2, and now i have a new project for the new year, got these moulds in a trade

its snowing and to cold at the moment to cast anything out of them, but hoping to get casts out in the new year

Started a new Mass Effect gun this morning! Working on the M3 Predator handgun to use with a Liara costume for Megacon 2012. I'm using thorssoli's blog as a tutorial to make my own. So far it's just an mdf blank, planning on adding the details out of other materials and carving the little lines with a dremmel.

This is my first build with mdf, and I really like it! I don't plan on making a mold, the silicone is a little too expensive, for my purposed the mdf should work just fine.

nice work on the gun, never tried mdf for props, looks the part allready.
As for the moulds, don't know much about them, other than its a fan sculpt, nothing licensed, pretty old by the looks of them

I have decided it's been too long since anyone's posted in this thread. Here's a few of the myriad builds I've got going on right now.

First, my Helghast assault rifle from Killzone:


The 3D model was done by Hugh Holder. I'm milling it out, then doing the cleanup on the prototype, molding, and casting. For now, I'm just goofing around with it in the workshop:


This will be another project much like my Mass Effect M9 Tempest submachine guns based on a 3D model from TyrDropProps. Here's a shot showing the first set of raw castings out of that mold:


I've cast a few others, so I really need to get around to painting one or two of them:


Meanwhile, since the molds failed for my HALO 3 MkVI helmet, I've been cleaning up one of the casts and refining much of the details:


The most significant difference is the shape of the details under the brim:


I'm also reworking the details on the rear end:


I've also been building a pepakura-based terminator space marine helmet:


Here's an earlier shot to give a better idea of the overall shape:


On the subject of Space Marines, the other day we pulled the first copy of the lower leg parts:


I also got a slow start on the sculpt for the fingers:


As long as we were screwing around with my vacforming table, I had to make another pull of my HALO health pack:

I got a bit stalled when I decided I needed all four helmets:


On the topic of Star Wars builds, I'm almost done with my Skygunbro Commander Neyo kit:


My SGB AT-RT Driver kit has a bit further to go:


Finished, they'll both be on par with my EVO3 Commander Cody helmet:


Coming up I've got a whole lot of detail sculpting to do for the Space Marine build, a Dead Space 2 pulse rifle to go with my Isaac Clarke engineering RIG, a HALO3 EVA helmet so I can build the Meta from Red vs. Blue, and I'm contemplating building the DC-15LONG clonetrooper blaster rifle as seen in Episode 2.

I'm sure I've got more going on right now, but that's all that comes to mind at the moment.

As i'm just getting back into this after a long time away from it, my list mostly comprises of tear-downs and building up kits i've had for several years, sitting gathering dust...

No pictures of any of this yet, i'll probably throw some up at some point when I get round to starting one of them:

(in no particular order)

Hero Mark X Tricorder (Comm510/Federation Surplus I believe, although I don't have it on hand to check). Needs the following work:

• Door magnet setting
• Acrylic tubes for tracer lights fitting
• filling/sanding/priming
• rear access panel cutting/fitting
• electronics fitting
• (I think) New Graphics, as I have a sneaking suspicion that I messed up the original set...
• Painting (actually need to get a new source of PK7179etc equivalent in the UK, had custom cans made in the past, can't get access to that any more...)

Mark IIIc Phaser Rifle (can't remember who did the pull)

• This is a complete tear down, needs the original paint removing, the front/back/scope parts separating and reseating, needs massive filler work doing, as there's air bubbles everywhere, then the usual prime/paint. Not gonna do electronics, too much work to hollow out the scope and I don't really have the facilities.

Nemesis Phaser (Dunno if i'll ever get round to doing this. It was free due to being a prototype cast pull, and therefore is rather dog-eared.

PL NX-01 (Massive Kit, really want to light this one, so i'm leaving it until I have a bit more time to think about electronics from scratch)

1:1400 Steamrunner Class Kit (Starcraft Models). Fairly recent kit, will get round to that at some point

Iron Man Mark I Arc Reactor (scratch build, obviously) - This is probably going to be the one i'll be working on first. Recently found a pretty handy laser-cutting service (which is one of the things that prompted me to start doing this stuff again), so I can get a lot of the things that I can't effectively do with my tools/facilities, laser cut.

Warehouse 13 Tesla/Farnsworth - These are for my girlfriend, and as such I need to work on them when she's not around for the time being, so they exist as some parts in a box behind my desk until I get the opportunity to work on them proper.

Edit: Thought of a couple more!

Voyager Kit (Can't remember the scale, 1:576 maybe?) This is a paint job. it's lit, and one of the nacelle blue sections is cracked, but I can't do much about that. It's been needing a paint job for about...7 years >.<

DS9 Kit (1:2500 maybe?) Again, paint job. It's a lit kit, but most of the FOs are broken, so the only thing that really lights is the reactor, which I'm ok with...

Danube Class Runabout (no idea on scale, it's the common one) Just a standard build/paint job. I don't even know where this one is to be honest...(probably in the bin at one of my parents knowing my luck)

...aaand that's about it.
