What's on your workbench? (no Star Wars, Marvel or DC stuff)

Re: What's on your workbench?

006.JPG well, the 2001 Space Station is almost done (another bridge to build and putting the cables)...another day and that half is finished!!

Re: What's on your workbench?

I'm in the middle of working a female Hawke costume for a client to wear to DragonCon this year. I just finished this articulated gauntlet, and I'm pretty proud of well all the parts of the hand can still move. It's made out of vacuum formed parts that are plastidipped, painted, then glued with cyanoacrylate to glove.

Re: What's on your workbench?

Decided to use an old school Nydar sight on the gun instead of something crazy and boxy.

Some updates on the build. Lots of styrene and wood, glue, and milliput. Some real steel parts. Lots of button cap screws. It was a fun build.

Re: What's on your workbench?

Just finished a pretty big upgrade to the workshop and as part of getting ready for next lot of projects, I've made up a new custom camera/phone arm to get easier footage of my builds.
I used aluminium tube, metal curtain rod ends and pvc parts to make a custom jointed poseable mounted arm that can be shifted to film any of the angles around the shop I'd like. The idea may of use to someone...

Jamie Staff Very cool arm but what really caught my attention was the mount to hold the phone. What is it?

Working on the Gravity Gun from Half-Life² right now. Now I'm onto making the crystals (first time resin casting! wish me luck haha).

Re: What's on your workbench?

:) As usual it's a colection of junk parts I've collected, but the top piece it from a dead laser level, the fexi neck part was off a old sunglasses rack, it held the mirror, but it's pretty easy to find, the cradle that hold the phone is just a piece of stainless steel wire I bent to match the size of my phone, it's held in by holes on each side of the clamp part.... I'm going to do another in a diffent part of the shop soon... It will have a from scratch top, I'll do a how to video on it, if you like, but otherwise I hope this helps....

I actually have one of these. The laser does not work anymore but I kept it anyway. I used to throw out things that didn't work. Now, thanks to this site, I have become a bit of a hoarder. Even junk has a purpose and so I collect everything with the hope that I can use it someday.

Re: What's on your workbench?

Those are awesome, how did you make those?

The War Machine helmets? The same way I did my other Ironman helmets. I haven't written up the details of the War Machine, but here's a article I wrote detailing the making of the Mk39 Ironman: http://protagonist4hire.blogspot.com/2014/10/ironman-costume-sidetrack-mk39-gemini.html

In other news, I've got a few more EpVII things on the bench:

That guy on the bottom left is an unrelated project that I'm using to illustrate the book I'm writing.

I'm finally about to pull a mold off of my First Order Snowtrooper dome:

I'm also making a new, smaller vacforming table so I can describe its construction in the book:

Since there's a lot of Star Wars stuff stacking up in the workshop for a moment, I've also decided I need a different project for Halloween. So there's this guy:

That's just some of what's on the workbench right now.

Re: What's on your workbench?

Cool! I may have to pick up your book now. I've been looking to make a vacuuforming table for awhile, but a lot of the plans are geared to much larger sizes than I need. I'd use it mostly for scale models.

Re: What's on your workbench?

I agree, i actually had a book on DIY former tables but the way it was written it sounded like less of a hassle to buy one or pay someone to build it lol

Re: What's on your workbench?

These are my first casts from the first mold I made. The original is at the top. Lots of mistakes along the way.

As with anything, it's always less of a hassle to buy one or pay someone to build it. The challenge with vacformers is that it's often a hell of a lot cheaper to build your own.
