What is your 'grail' and do you own it?

My grail is the X-Files credential wallet. I've been obsessed with it ever since the show began. About 9ish years ago I got the chance to get a screen used Season 3 wallet. It's been my most prized prop ever since, and not just because it cost a sizable chunk of change.

I got the Mulder and Scully replica wallets from you... I was fortunate enough to find screen used metal badges for them :). Nice pieces in my collection, that's for sure...

My grail would be the Hero Grail Diary for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, I guess. But no way this will be in my collection. Luckily there are very talented makers out there that create replica's that are VERY close to the original... And the best one I have until now is defenitely demiguel's diary. I like it even better than a Magnoli one, to be honest...

Gadgeteer, those glow in dark decals are pretty cool. I've never seen those before. A fully animatronic 3po would be sweet. But I think I'm leaning towards a 3po in pieces in a wookie bag. But lights and a voice would put it over the top.

"Animatronic" is not as difficult as you might think. I have some Halloween displays that are "animatronic" -- you could get some half-price just after Halloween, and cannibalize the mechanics. They're usually "motion activated" (have a circuit triggered by a CDS photocell). Making it talk is easy --- they have their own COB audio board, but the Radio Shack 20 second sound module can put several messages "on tap", and the circuit to make the module "continuous play" was posted online by someone named "Gadgeteer". One of my "backburner projects" is to replace the buzzer with actual Toy-Story audio in an "Alien Rocket Alarm Clock" (and the display is now continuous-color-change). If you program a PIC, you could query the CDS motion sensor(s) and trigger more than one sound module (and make the mouth match the sound), limited only by your budget (RS boards are $12). This would make your project somewhat interactive. Arduino boards might be easier to learn to program. Good luck!

My realistic dream props: The Atlantean! Also a few real parts for my Obi-wan Saber (grenade, balance pipe, booster). Also maybe doesn't count as a prop but a m29 44 magnum smith and wesson aka the Dirty Harry. Unrealistic prop dreams The Blade runner blaster made with real parts that fully functions and a all steel mechanically functioning Good Samaritan from Hellboy. A boy can dream!

A really truly good (perfect fabrics and measurements, custom tailored to me) Star Trek DS9/FC/INS/NEM uniform, in command burgundy of course, and with captain's vest addon.

Technically Anovos has this, but it is about 175,000 light-years outside my budget at present.

I have an actual plate that supposedly flew on the Graf Zeppelin. Couldn't afford a full dinner plate, this is more "salad sized". Also have many full sets of 1953 American Airlines (DC-3) Flagship silverware, with TWO very rare pickle/shrimp forks.

Sadly, it looks like I NO LONGER HAVE the Graf plate. Came home last month to find a lot of my stuff BAGGED UP and waiting to be taken (apparently they were running out the back door as I was entering the front). What they left -- a large black pillowcase (I didn't own a black pillowcase!) and several other bags filled with loot (my things!). Many items already gone. That plate was a "splurge", cost me $550, and I don't have a whole lot of extra cash at the moment. :-(

In the pillowcase was some of my DC-3 silverware, including a very rare pickle-fork; haven't found the second one yet. I'm finding more and more things I thought were stolen.

This raises a question -- props often have a LOT of your time, sweat and tears invested in them (and not only props; I have a home-made 3D camera, took an incredible amount of time to build; they took the dive-cameras, but left the home-made 3D! Whew!).

How would each of you feel to have invested a vast amount of time (and/or money) in acquiring/crafting some props, only to come home like I did and find the front door window smashed and your things stolen? Are you taking steps to prevent this?

My original Holy Grail prop was the Fourth Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver from Doctor Who. I was luckily able to get that the year I started collecting props in 2004 and have upgraded/replaced it a few times since then (as you do). Then the Holy Grail became a replica Police Box, also from Doctor Who, which I finally was able to add in 2013. All that was left on the Holy Grail list from there was the Alien Stiletto (aka the Gimlet) prop used by the Alien Bounty Hunter in The X-Files, which, thanks to the help of my friend Demijan I was able to add into my collection just last month! I'm sure I have more prop wants these three keep me pretty happy.

Gadgeteer, I can't even imagine what that must have been like for you. I'm sorry that it happened.

Being a huge American Werewolf fan... Gregg Ellinwood's piece (maybe converted into a full body piece), or that of Pat Magee's (life-size full body). Several times I've chatted to the artists and almost pulled the trigger. The day will come, but not sure when.

But the Ellinwood just speaks for itself:

That looks really good. You know, if I had one of THOSE (with a couple of motors to make it snarl and snap, & some sound effects) --- I wouldn't have to worry about any more burglars!!!

Thanx -- it feels pretty violated. They trashed the place; and I've been so depressed about it (and taking care of my Mom, & brother with sudden cancer), I just haven't felt like sorting through what they left. But today I found the "Concord passenger dish & silverware", and a rare glow-in-the-dark sign I thought they had gotten. Have not found the Christmas lights, 1940's stars that I put a lot of work into (each socket lights up to show which one of the series lights is burned out!) Maybe the lights & zeppelin plate will turn up.

I look at how much time and energy people put into props here, and hope that everyone takes steps to protect against thieves. Imagine having a "holy-grail" -- especially one that takes MONTHS or more to create, then coming home and finding the door smashed in and the project missing! :angry

Excellent locks, a good alarm, perhaps a secret room is indicated. Might be fun to have a radio-frequency tracking device! They make a "luggage finder" which runs on cellular frequencies, you can call it and it will give you its precise GPS coordinates. (There's a monthly fee...)

Of course, "it's only stuff", we shouldn't let things like that destroy us...

Sigh.

My grail is not very specific. From Chappie I would love to own something from a screen used scout robot or from Chappie himself.

There is something about the robots in Chappie that to me really sets them apart.
Due to the shipping costs to the UK on the recent Chappie auctions I missed out on everything I was bidding on.

I really enjoy reading about people that finally find their prop holy grail and hopefully I will join them soon.
One day:)

An aluminum bladed hybrid Season 1/Season 2-6 handled (Point Gallery head & Marto body) Duncan sword with copper colored tsuba and H2 antiquing. Thanks to Handmade Swords, Daryl Kyle of Texas Steel Props & Replicas and one of China's Ebay sellers, I have my grail, and I even got to build it myself!

I would say it's probably now the Rocketeer X-3. Not sure when I'd ever be able to afford a finished one or if I'd ever have the skills to build one.

Hmmm, holy grail items.

Indiana jones gear. Got it..... ahhh yeah.
Airwolf. Never gonna get it without a lottery win.

My grail changes two or three times a year. The one prop I've been obsessed with is Deckard's blaster from Blade Runner. I have one... but I want more of them.
