What is that one prop that got away?

If there is a thread like this, please forgive me (There had to have been one like it somewhere, but I can't find one).

I was thinking today about how tough it can be to find out something had been purchased before you even learned of a sale, or when that one piece you've always wanted was just a tad too expensive. This feeling might also occur when you are eBay sniped, or were forced to sell something you loved because of hard times. What is the one prop that got away?

Mine was probably an eBay auction for a fully built Mark VII tricorder on eBay that I missed out on by a few dollars, before I found the wonderful members of this board who helped me obtain one.

There have been a few ...
I found a genuine RAF helmet on eBay, at a very good price, only one bidder, five minutes left, and then my Internet connection suddenly died!
I tried desperately to get it working again, but the fault was on the ISP who did not manage to get it going again until some 20 hours later.
Six months later, I finally bought one, not as good, at twice the price, received it in the mail today.

Mine is the one that got away then came back.

My "Norman Harrison/ Elstree Staff of Ra Headpiece"

I have found that if you let things slip away they eventually come back.

Missed out on an MR LE At-At for 800 bucks on ebay. Went out and forgot to bid before I left. Still kicking myself as it's one of two pieces I need to finish my collection.

One was the sceen-used virus case from the original Resident Evil movie. I bid way above my budget, but just lost out.

A few days later I got a second chance offer, as the high bidder had backed out. By that time I had come to my senses and passed on it, so that one got away twice.

The Krull glaive replica made by Vashstampede. It was a beautiful piece but I just didn't have the cash at the time.

CURSE YOU NOBLE COLLECTION STAFF OF GANDALF THE GREY!!!!

They stopped selling it the week I could finally afford it, and since then it has only shown up for ridiculous prices...

I bid £10k on the Paul Allen ESB Stunt Stormtrooper Helmet and it ended up going for £13.5k. It would be worth 4 times that now.....

The only one I really kick myself over from the BSG auctions. I was trying to get the retirement gift plaque given to Lee with the pilot pin framed. I missed it THAT much. :cry

I had the chance to make a mold of the hero bonesword from "Brotherhood of the wolf", unfortunately my life was a bit crazy at that time and i just didn't have the time for it. Still regret it very much.

Also a gamepod from Existenz (the version in which the gristlegun was concealed) was sold by the propstore before i had the cash to buy it.

And, a superswitch alarm box (aliens shoulderlamp part) was sold a couple of hours of ebay to someone else for 10 GBP (i offered 20, but was too late)

I kick myself at least once a month for selling my Larbel EP1 Obi Wan sabre. I bought it fully loaded with the electronics and both emitter covers. I only needed to pick up the EL blade for it to be complete. Damn me for selling it. Great, now I'm bummed again.

I had to sell my finished O'Brien tool box full of tools - including a working multi sound and light Mark X tricorder all of which I built. It was my baby, but it did go to a great collector on TPZ.

Buuut.... thanks to a fellow member I got another case, scored the tric and electronics kits soon after to re-built the tric even better this time, and even sourced the RL light that I scratch built as static in the last case.

Maybe it does all come around.

The singular white Computer Space from Soylent Green. Simply outbid at the last minute . . .

A couple of mine would be the original MR Luke ROTJ and Elite Luke ROTJ Lightsabers. The first one I was not even aware they were being sold and the Elite I could not afford at the time. Now it is impossible to get either of them without paying a small fortune.

For me it would have to be a production made Blob victim bust from the 1988 remake of "The Blob". It was a real one of a kind piece - bought it, paid for it, it shipped..... and then it vanished off the face of the earth. :cry
