I saw Billy West was coming to the next con, so I wanted to put together a Zoidberg to wear. While looking online I saw a few folks that did it, but most were simple and none were very realistic. So I wanted to take it upon myself to make a "realistic" version of the cartoon character. While reading up and watching episodes he had a lot of features that were seen briefly in a single scene or talked about, like the side gills, the fin on the top of the head and the gonads on the back of the neck, so I wanted to take all these features and add them to the sculpt. This was my first ever attempt for a full pull over mask so there are some flaws and design mistakes, but as in many folks first attempt many lessons were learned. I wish i did the front mandibles as a separate piece, cleaning out the mold and pulling the latex was a pain.
Here are some pics of the sculpt and the first mask pulled. I was running low on time and made quick claws and used Tabi (ninja) shoes for the feet, I want to resculpt these later down the road. Not sure if it is the natural lighting but it came out more red than i expected and may repaint it. Also I am working with a seamstress to get the proper scrubs and coat. These 2 are store bought from a uniform store. So remember this is a work in progress.
