WETA: District 9 Guns

I'm going the cheap route and building one from this:

pic1.jpg

I'm actually building that model and it turns out a lot of the parts the author embelished on or they fit a little funny. Theres also a lot of detail left out dispite the completeness of the model. It's also feather light so it feels weird XD not like a heavy gun at all.

I knew the chances of the guns being produced in NZ were slim (especially considering the price), but I just got confirmation that they are being produced in china. Guess that means we'll be lucky if we get these by christmas, quality will be so so and the paintjob won't look half as good as in the pictures :unsure Hopefully Weta's QC works better than the one of other prop companies in the past...

Hi Everyone

Thank you for your interest in our D9 range

I hope you don't mind me dropping in to answer some of your questions.

The first 2 District 9 weapons are selling very well. We expect to be shipping them by the end of Q2 (June). However this is an estimate. You can keep updated on timing by signing up for our free newsletter http://www.wetanz.com/insideweta/newsletter

The guns will be static. They will come with plain, black wall brackets, which will be hidden by the guns, once they are mounted.

The paint and mold masters are crafted in the Workshop by the same artists who created the originals. They are art directed by Greg Broadmore who was lead conceptual designer on District 9 and is the creator of Dr Grordbort's rayguns. They will be reproduced in China at the same place where we produce many of our collectibles. They will not be shipped until they have passed a quality inspection by a Weta staff member.

For those of you who have pre-ordered from our website, we will not charge your credit card until the weapons are in stock and ready to ship. There are no cancellation fees, but of course we are hoping you will continue with your order.

Once your payment is processed, you receive Weta dollars (one Weta dollar is equivalent to US1). You get 10 Weta dollars for every US$100 spent on your order (excluding shipping costs). You can then use this to purchase other items. If your orders are over US$500 within the last 12 months, you then become a gold member and get 15 Weta dollars for every US$100 spent.

We ship from our 3 warehouses in the US, UK and NZ. We don't carry all our items in all our warehouses, so you can always check the shipping fees in the check out process.

Finally, we'd like to know what District 9 items you would like us to offer. We already have more items coming soon. But if possible, can you you organise a vote on this forum for the weapon / prop you would most like to see next ?

Kind regards

Tim

Hi, Tim.

Good to see you here at RPF.

Being an essential part of the story, I'd very much like to see the liquid canister announced. Perhaps Wikus' mutated hand, too?

I second a fluid canister. Also, I'd like to see the white repulsor gun Wikus used when escaping the Nigerians :love

Tim,

We are currently trying to amass a list of the props (mostly guns) from D-9 and will get up a poll this week.

I just checked my email and I got something back for Weta regarding the shipping time which seems to line up with what Tim and everyone else is saying:

Thank you for your order and email

This item is still production, and we're currently unable to provide an accurate availability date. However, at this stage we anticipate it to be around June-August this year.

Please note this is very approximate and subject to change.

Apologies we cannot be more precise at this point in time.

Updates on availability will be posted on our website and newsletter. To receive notifications, please subscribe to our newsletter: http://www.wetanz.com/insideweta/newsletter

Kind regards,
Darren

Props are nice and all, but an "Art of District 9" book would be tops on my list.

Great, thanks !

We have these massive internal debates (bare knuckle fights !) at Weta trying to decide what to launch next. We all have our personal favourites, so it's really helpful for us when we get feedback from you all

Cheers

Tim

A wearable Prawn hand would also be excellent ... I understand the original prosthetic used a mechanism that allowed the tentacles to move as the fingers bent.
