Hi everyone,
I googled around and checked the forum and didn't find much on an idea I had not long ago.
I wanted to make a replicas of the scalp with the maze on it from Westworld (a show that I really enjoyed)
Not saying I'm the first one to attempt it, I just didn't find much to help me out so I improvised, although it wasn't a complicated project, It was a fun build :
-I used 1/4" thick mdf backboard
-I used regular clay
-I put a lot of screws in there to avoid cracking
-I also used many layers of wire meshing
-covered it and dried it slowly in regular temp for a month
-had some shrinkage and small surface cracking but it turned out ok
-I did some test to replicate the pale/faded maze on the scalp
-I painted the scalp with pure white (2 layers of acrylic)
-I painted the base black
-I used calc paper to draw the maze (directly from my cel phone)
-then I copied it to the scalp (THE WRONG SIDE!!) I realized it when it was too late :facepalm
-at first I used a regular led pencil but then I used a black sharpie marker (two layers)
-after waiting 24h for the marker to dry I painted one layer of white with barely a touch of red (very light pink)
-contoured with blood red acrylic paint and used water to dilute from dark to lite
-I used wooden saw dust (not too thin) and mixed it with darker red for the flesh
-I added two layers of gloss sealer on the maze and a thick layer on the saw dust
-I used fake hair extension (0.87$ ebay) that I cut to 2" length
-I hot glued the hair on a flexible plastic wire (1" or 2" length)
-I hot glued the wire with the hair to the underside of the scalp (hidden)
-I added some darker red paint on the hair (to hide the hot glue)
Ok I know it doesn't look that much like the actual prop (but I'm ok with that)
Here's some pictures of my build :
