Will the "advanced" search remain like it is or will it ever be useful again?
The new one is... less useful than the old. Can't sort the results, and all sorts of other features are sorely lacking :(

So, then, my trophy points will be somewhat higher when you fix my likes. (not a big hurry, I'm sure there's more important stuff.)
And, if someone has 5 trophy points, you either know they're new, or one of the quiet ones that don't post much.

Looks like you gained 115 Trophy points last night. ;)

I think "Trophy Points" are super ambigious and tell you less about a member at a glance than just displaying their likes and signup date. I mean, it could be an amalgamation of literally anything and you have no idea what represents a lot or only a few "Trophy Points" unless you refer to a chart. I understand that the nature of "likes" and such change over time and the RPF used to have none of it (I wouldn't mind going back to that either, personally) but if you're going to display something under the users name anyway, why package it up into the "Trophy Point" system?

Maybe i'm just not giving it a fair shot, to me the direct info is a better metric than a number that's a combined average of those factors, so it just seems like i'll end up clicking on a lot of avatars if I really want to know about that poster because the "Trophy Points" don't tell me much.

More criticism, I know, can't help it. Sorry. To be fair I don't really think this is a big problem, it's just one of those things i'll have to get used to.

Totally understand your POV on this. It is something new and at the moment it does seem odd and uncomfortable. Previously we all used two metrics to evaluate someone so at some level you were doing a bit of mental gymnastics in your head to see if you felt the time someone had been here vs the posts they had created made them a valuable or trustworthy member. I hope that over time, you will grow to have trust in the trophy system and that number will instantly provide the trust/no trust evaluation for you. Keep in mind, during this transitional time, you can click on someone's Trophy point count and see why they have the points they have. You can also click on their avatar and see a quick summary of all of their stats... but again, I hope, as time goes on, we will all feel more comfortable with trusting the trophy points.

On a final note, the LIKES system is a very powerful tool. I know it gets a bad rap on Facebook and Instagram, but here you get a bit of a more honest representation and it is a good way to see if someone is posting valuable content. It is easy to post a lot (high post counts), but the question is, are you posting things that other members find valuable? Likes help determine that.

I can see the benefit of the trophy system, but I think there are still some possible issues. I’m close to getting my 20 year trophy, but someone who randomly posts “bump” can get to 5,000 posts faster than I will. I hope what I’ve posted in this time was more valuable than that. My example is this thread where one person is basically posting to themself each day:

I’ve spent some time on this past week and am fully used to the new look!

Hmmmm... Let me take a look and see if there are any solutions out there. The new search system is actually FAR more powerful than the old, but you are correct that it is missing some options.

Certainly something we will need to keep an eye on, in terms of what we feel is giving a fair trophy count. I have always believed that time served is important, but not as important as contributions. In the past, that has always simply equated to post count, but as you pointed out, people can and do hyper-inflate their post count.... which is why I really like the LIKES system as it is essentially peer review. I am thrilled the points system takes all of these into account. Is it is a perfect system? Surely not. Can and will it be tweaked as we moved forward? I am sure it will. Is it better than what we had before this? I think so.

Hi Art, the added likes cake through. Thank you for making that happen. (y)

One question though... when a member is a Premium Member, it only displays the Premium title under their name. Is there a way that it could display the title of “new member”, “active member”, “Sr. Member” above or below the Ptemium title? It would help people, at a glance, know who they are interacting or dealing with a little easier.

Also at what point does the status change over?

I came here literally to ask the same thing. Thanks Rich
Having a paid account, I feel, should be separate from your member Status that you've earned. And I feel that it also really helps visualize who a given member is, along with their trophy count. When you see "Well Known Member" it tells you something. So maybe just display the actual status and then give Premium Members a separate badge or something?
Otherwise a Legendary Member who's basically an RPF Guru and has been here from day one bestowing prop knowledge to all looks exactly like Junkyard Joe who just recently signed up and bought a membership just to sell his crap.

Good question. The answer is, I don't know, but I will find out. From a technical standpoint, New Member, Sr Member, etc are called user titles and are determined by Trophy Points. Honestly... they are a little redundant now that I think about it. The banner for Premium Member or Staff is called a user banner. I am not sure why the banner supercedes the title, but I'll find out.

I enjoy the like system .
I can enjoy a post like it without having to clutter a thread with comments.
Because a post that just says 'cool', isn't.

Back in the day this was a MAJOR reason we moved to a likes system (via a third party since the old software didn't allow for it... which is also why we had such a hard time bringing those over to this software... but I digress). I HATE " 'atta boy" posts and the likes system addresses that very nicely!

Also at what point does the status change over?

If you are asking what the breaks are for the User Title Ladder, here they are:

New Member 0-49

Jr Member 50 - 99

Member 100-199

Active Member 200-499

Well-Known Member 500-999

Sr Member 1000-1999

Master Member 2000-4999

Legendary Member 5000+

At the moment, we have ONE member who has broken 1500 points, alienscollection.com... over 5000 likes. Crazy good stuff!

Atta boy, Art! Atta boy! ;)

Well he is a great member. I would have thought Michael Bergeron would have broken that goal as well.

The current Trophies don’t allow for anyone to reach Legendary status. Looks like we’re a ways away from needing to worry about that though.
