Weird question... Captain Power

Keep an eye out in thrift stores: several episodes (dunno how many) were released on VHS back in the day.

A few years ago I saw one in the TV room at a hospice, of all places.

man am I getting old or what... 21 years ago... Where the time has gone. :(

Though I give credit to my parents who never bought me the laser guns for the show. They proclaimed, "No way. That show is going to be off the air someday and you'll never be able to use them again. We're not blowing $60 on those!"

I was so certain that show would live on forever. Oh man was I wrong. I think the show canceled right after Christmas and oh they were right about those guns. I did have action figures though, Wish I still had them. Back then $8 was a lot for a Captain Power figure. I had like 3 or 4 of them. Dredd, Captain Power and one of the bio dreds too.

That show was good at determining the future. First the bio dreds digitized everyone, now George Lucas does it. hehe--

No kidding. I think the show was cancelled about two episodes after I got the XT-7. No more awesome interactive battles for me! I only had one of the training videos but I played that thing to death!

That DVD set for sale on the anniversary web site sounds cool, but I'm not sure what the quality is like.

Other than the old bio dredd suits, have any of the props turned up original or otherwise?

The first Captain Power dvd's I got were from this place...

If the bar was set at VHS being the best quality format CP was ever released on, this ranks at about a B-. That being said it is nowhere near the quality of a modern DVD release...but it has been all thats available for a while. I just ordered the set from the 20th anniversary web site so I'll let you guys know how it looks.

I was wondering if ayone has ever done a Captain Power (or any other soldier of the future) costume...?
I'm just curious... So, anyone?:)

I dove in and tried to do one a LOOOOONG time ago. I got permission from the show's creator to make my own copy of Captain Power's suit. I even visited the studio of Robert Short who made the suits for the show.

I never got it finished. I'll try to find pics of what I eventually did finish from the parts and post it.

Yeah, the show was predicated on the idea that parents wouldn't get p.o.ed at 6;30 on Sunday morning when the kids had the show cranked up and were blasting away with loud and noisy electronic toy guns.

I still have my Tank carded figure signed by Sven Ole Thorson. I had him autograph it when he was here working on Mall Rats. He's a cool guy.

I was totally into Captain Power for a while... sought out and bought up all the toys (even the rare, Canadian Only ones). Then I sold it all for about $80 when they weren't worth spit a couple years ago. My bad. Of course, I have a bad habit of doing that. I sold off a crapload of Takatoku original japanese Macross stuff for... well... for a load of Captain Power toys. I'm not much for making good decisions like that. The Takatoku stuff is going for $300 plus a piece these days. Hindsight sucks.

That would be cool!:)

The DVD set from the 20th anniversary site is pretty damn cool. About as good as we can hope for until it gets an official release. The menus are pretty decent and the extras are great! All the toy commercials are there and some of them I had totally forgotten about!

The first episode quality was head and shoulders above my previous copy. The training vids are all there...good stuff!

Another Zombie thread revive!!!

Raise and Live again! hahaha

I would LOVE to see what Gordon came up with IF he still is around the forums.

as I posted in another of the Captain Power threads I'm in the first stage planning to make a "Tank" Ellis U.G.A. power armor costume.

getting the reference pics is a pain tho... and I'm sitting now and then with my drawing board and a pencil to sketch the armor pieces when I get a clear shot in the dvds. (that are awesome actually! THANKS RANDY!)

as soon as I have enough pics in ink I'll post back with them.

cool stuff, Captain Power was my favorite show ever and now that I'm 37 I still feel like that little kid, all emotion, when watching the series!

I hope you get it done man! I would love to see that. It would be awesome to get a group together as the crew from the show and hit up a convention. Of course we'd need a few biodreds as well!

The show stands up a lot better than some of its peers.
