Weathering my BTTF Nike Bruins

I just finished painting my new Nike Bruins. I got a white pair with gray swooshes and repainted them red with Angelus leather paint. I may be insane for doing this, but I'd like to weather them to look more worn in and grubby like Marty's shoes look in the movie. Other than just going out and running around for a while in dirt, does anyone else have any ideas for ways to weather them a little? Something that is easy to control and doesn't do much damage to the shoes would be ideal. Thanks!

I used some acetone to scuff mine up down to the leather similar to the weathering on toe in your photo

"No, you and Jennifer turn out fine. It's your kicks – something's gotta be done about your kicks!"

Hmmm. Marty's look to have a lot of gray-ish dirt on them. Perhaps you could grind up some cheap chalk into a fine powder and apply it to the shoes? Or if you want to get all fancy, buy a set of gray pastels from the art / craft store.

Fuller's Earth is what a prop shop would use to weather/dirty things up. So maybe check that out.

I often used matt eyeshadow for dirt, works like a charm haha. Didn't try on the shoes, so not sure if I can recommend X)

Thanks for all the ideas guys! I think I'll start with Fuller's earth and see how that turns out.
