Well it's a little too heavy for me to wield comfortably, but the advantage is it breaks into two pieces for suitcase transport,

anyone here fans of 40k?

Quite happy with the weathering for the hazard stripe for this one.

I'm thinking i may end up selling it after a con or two, it was alot of work, and the weight is a deal breaker for me keeping it as a regular prop for my wife's and my 40k costumes.

I've heard of the game but never got into it but that thing is super cool looking. It looks like it must have taken forever, especially the teeth on the chain.

This looks great! I was commissioned to make a working one of these, do you have any progress pics or how you made it. I'd love some advice.

i tend to free hand a plan, and then take it further, like going back with exact measurements once i like the rough sketch,

i took a motorcycle brake for the trigger of the sword (which actually is under tension still so it can be squeezed and will return to it's neutral position)
and then built a pvc pipe into it, built a box of sintra around it, then the thicker armored plates were added,
i was able to use some power tools such as an oscillating drum sander to make the teeth,
mostly it was just an xacto knife, hack saw and alot of glue.
i think my method would not help you if i went more in depth however, as you need room for internals to keep the teeth moving.. and my design would not have allowed room for that.

very cool man!! but I guess not long enough .... I'm waiting for lightning claws and power sword

So, where's the rest of the costume? :)

It's been a decade or something like that since I was into 40K, but I still love the designs. Looks like you did a great job catching the feel of the chainsword. How much does that bad boy weigh? It's a shame you won't be able to wield it much.

@paw, these are from last years comic con, i done a "heroic" cover art version of the character ciaphas cain, this year i wanted a more accurate version, with chainsword and laspistol.

the sword weighs around 15 pounds and quite alot of it is near the tip for some ungodly reason! lucky for me i don't plan to fight with it.

Good looking costumes and chainsword! I've been on a 40K kick lately, so this is fresh in my mind. What did you make the heavy end with? I ask wondering if you could remake it with lighter materials so it wouldn't be such a bother to carry around cons.

That's excellent work and your costumes from last year are great - love the plasma pistol and the Sisters' costume.

Why is it so heavy on the far end? Without internals it shouldn't be that bad.

yeah, i think ive shared some of my stuff on dakkadakka, nothing recent though.

as for the sword, i have no idea why it's so heavy, i would say the weight isnt all on the very tip of the sword, but it's not balanced so holding out at my arms length means if gets very heavy, very fast.
well, for me, because i'm not that athletic..
perhaps i should not have used so many orphan souls in the creation? i hear they shift about if not properly secured.. hmm

Amazing work! I've always wanted to do some 40K props or costumes, even though i don't play the tabletop games these days. I did start a chainsword a year back, but it got shelved... this might be the inspiration to get back on it :D

ive done bolt pistols, plasma pistols, laspistols ( just finished a pair for a kal jericho costumer) a lasgun and of course this chainsword.

i've got quite a list of other devices i want to build as well, but i've been working more recently on mass effect stuff, so that's ment that alot of the 40k stuff has been displaced to the back burners for alittle while.

ahhhh...so you are on here Kai.

wonderful chainsword. ive got a bolt pistol but the thing weighs about 5 pounds...
