Warhammer 40000 Space Marines

The bolter is looking great. If you reproduce it, I'll buy one (price within reason). I have almost finished my first helmet paint job. I am looking at wiring up some LED's in the sensor box and doing a grate similar to what you have done in the front vents. The first helmet I am doing is clean and won't be weathered, the second one I'll probably be doing in my space wolves variant paint scheme and that one, i will likely cruddy up a little :)

The sculpt on the Mark-7 helmet looks great as well. If you cast them and they are priced reasonably I'd consider buying, I have 2 of Thorssoli's beaky helmets already though so I am not going to commit to anything, I am going to have to start using the damn things for chairs if i can't find a place to store/display them as it is.

Thorssoli - Wonderful finished work. The detail is amazing. I especially love the under-grill on the side vents. Nice touch.

Darthjones - Excellent looking bucket. I especially love the front grill as it looks as though it would keep the bucket nice and cool with good airflow.

Those beakies look great.

I am a bigger fan of the Mk7 so I would definitely be interested in one if they go into any kind of production.

The bolter looks amazing. I can't wait to see further progress. I've been wanting one of those for years....

Thanks for all the kind words, guys. I don't know how many he is going to make. Myself, I'm not that much of an authority on what these helmets are supposed to look like but I think he is going to make others with different hoses and things on the cheeks. We have a variety of found objects.

What did I use here? I found it in gardening at OSH. It is plastic painted metal. They have metal ones too but they were pretty heavy. It is made by TORO.

Anyone want the other 8 pics. or so to see? PM me with an email and I'll send 'em out. It would only let me post 2 here and I could not downsize anymore with what I have. Weird.

Excellent work on the space marine helmet DarthJones. I remember seeing pics of it (or another one) quite a while back ... wondered how it came out.

Both of the variants are amazing pieces of work. I never got much into playing the game, but loved painting the miniatures. If I could justify the cost of a larger-scale paint project, I'd be all over getting one of each. :)

Keep up the great work, gents.

Despite this great piece of work, I'm still toying with the idea of sculpting a Mk7 helmet as well.

I'll be posting pics of the bolter as soon as I finish the smoothing and detailing stages of the project.

Stay tuned.

Here's the bolter so far:

Definitely fits the bill....

The muzzle outer dia looks a bit small to me - not in scale with the rest IYKWIM.

Could just be the angle of the picture. The inner diameter is bored out to .75cal and the outer diameter is a bit less than two inches. Making the wall of the barrel any thicker than that looked silly to me.

Checked my muzzle piece and its 60mm dia and 60mm long - mostly 'cos that was the size of tube I had lying around. Its bore is 45mm - strictly too big but it looks good and I figure that bit is just the flash collector/hider and not part of the barrel itself hence the huge bore :)

Update:

Still a few more details to work out. Primarily I have to clean up the area of the slide and do a little bit of smoothing on the grip.

If all goes according to plan, moldmaking will begin tomorrow.

Stay tuned.

I decided to put off moldmaking in favor of putting more attention into smoothing and detailing. That said, here's a couple of current pics. I'm still waiting for some details to come back from the engraver.

So I should be molding this up tomorrow and have castings by Monday.

Also, the magazine is still removable. I've decided on a spring-clip arrangement that will lock it in place but allow it to be pulled out. The magazine release buttons are completely decorative.

I'm also going to be casting the barrel assembly separate as well as a 3/16" inch thick version of the imperial double eagle emblem which can be attached to the cover. I'll post pics when I've got those done.
