QMx announced the license back at Comic-Con in July, saying the first product would be the Farnsworth. That was over six months ago, and still no Farnsworth, just blueprints.
Not technically accurate. They did have a number of them available at a convention a while back. They did produce them for sale. Many (including myself) were hoping that the initial price was for the 'prototype' production phase (as each one was hand-made) and they'd do a mass-run at a lower price (say $150).
Last I heard, they are still planning on doing a 'mass-run' of the Farnsworth, but they never put any details.
Not to sidetrack the "Tesla Gun" aspect of this thread, but just to further clarify the Farnsworth communicator release thus far...
I was fortunate to speak with Karl Derrick (QMx Design Director) this past September at DragonCon in Atlanta, Georgia regarding the Farnsworth which was available for sale at the QMx booth. Apparently only 100 units were built and assembled for the show -- with no two exactly alike. These were truly 'hand-made', 'hand-painted', and 'hand-assembled'... and I mean that in a really good way. Karl took the time to explain some of the processes used to get the details just right, and pointed out some things that only the super-critical would even notice. He was a super nice guy, and after a really great conversation, obviously an extremely detail orientated guy as well. I was catching him on the last day of the convention, and he had a grand total of four (4) Farnsworths left -- out of 100. Well, make that three left after I vacated the booth.
As far as when they will be producing more, I haven't heard anything.
