War Machine Costume

Your armor looks fantastic! I look forward to seeing it all ready painted and in action. My construcive advice is to use more time on the helmet perfecting the shape of it. :thumbsup I think it does not serve the rest of the armor justice, but some time and tweaking the helmet, the entire set up will look incredible! :love:thumbsup
 
I couldn't agree more TMP, that's the second version and I'm still not happy with the shape. Since I'm not under a deadline, I may take another hack at it. Although, part of the problem is that I'm trying to make the faceplate move and normally the faceplate glued to the rest of the helmet keeps the shape properly. I may do a vacuform at this rate, just so I can make sure my helmets are up to the same par as everyone else on this board.:lol

The liquid vinyl coating is so thick, that I just take a brush and "tap" "tap" "tap" the surface in a quick motion, and this creates the stipple texture. To me it's quite literally to "stipple" the surface with the coating. I have more parts done, but I need to create the stencils and paint the numbers and air force logos on and then I'll take more pics. Or maybe the shoes? anyone want to see the shoes in process?
 
Been busy on other stuff, sorry for the delays. Nothing like a 3 week project that turns into a 5 week never ending monster. So first a video of the big gun! I got the arm together enough to test on my shoulder.

Then some pics of the patterns, then the foam traced for the feet. My brilliant wife suggested using sandals cut up as my sole detail, that way it won't collapse over time like the iron man ones did. I assembled the arms and legs, all I need is that damn waist. Added some detail to the helmet, it looks too big for my taste, I may have to make another one. Maybe I should just by someone else's? arrrrggghhh!:cry:angry
 
Epic Minigun, wish I lived near you, I'd make a motor for the joints so you could move it around to freak people out. (The control would be part of the round hip part on the right or left side, but shhhhhhh, it's top secret)
 
i love the fact that this suit is really ultra-lite. i would love to know what you use to seal the foam with myself :)

I need that motor control! Where do you live? I wanted to motorize the arm originally, but time and patience got in the way, but now I'm rethinking the whole thing, if I can get something from you, Id be (monetarily) very grateful. Unless you want to trade secrets?:angel
 
Unfortunately, I live in Flordia, and I couldn't make it without being in physical contact with the parts, otherwise the motors would be either two small or two big, but i would be more then happy to explain it to you if you send me a message, I would post it, but it would probably be received negatively. The secret thing was a joke.
 
wow, nothing like a little incentive to put my butt in gear! :lol (I have a charity event THIS SATURDAY! So I figured I'd update some. Got the shoes done, man what a pain, I used the old Mark 3 patterns from my first iron man, but even though I marked everything it took hours to figure out what I was thinking. This is part of my fear about releasing my patterns to the public, everyone will need instructions on how I think!:lol I vinyl textured the chest and did some painting. I added red lens to the eyes. I have one for the chest too, that will probably be the next item, to wire up my chest RT. I glued some wetsuit style shoes into the feet so I can slip them on easily and be comfortable while walking. And just to show you how crazy I really am, I made every detail on the bottom of the feet, even though you will probably never see them. I guess that's it for now. Thanks for watching!:cool

My wife (brilliant creature that she is) remembered how the Mark3 soles eventually flattened because of weight and continuous stress (they're foam after all) And suggested I try Flip Flop sandals, the cheap ones at 99 cent stores where great, but I found even better ones at Walmart. I never would have thought of it, but yeah, so far they look and feel great! :rolleyes I'll post more pics later today or tonight, got the waist and stomach done last night, gotta cover the shoes and do the final airbrushing and dry brushing and it will be done! :lol Or at least done before I wear it this Saturday and realize I have to modify parts for movement and subract sections for comfortable bending. :cry
