War Machine Costume

Wondersquid,

This is just phenomenal! It looks like some of the detailing was done on a press or something, not cut with a razor-knife, etc. Especially on the side of the arm guns and gatling gun turret. How do you accomplish this? What cutting instruments used? Thanks.

I got your email. Thank you very much sir. Did you save your templates?

Loganclaw - I cheated on the Gatling and sidearm guns, those are vacuformed for weight. :unsure The lines look clean because I cut them on a band saw and sanded them straight. I knew that the build up of foam for the side guns would be heavy and I wanted my arms to be light for the long wearing time. sorry if I fooled you. :angel Tell you what, I'll try making one of them and see if I can cut the lines as straight with a razor blade. (probably not, my old hands are getting wobbly) I'll probably have the chest done tomorrow, just have to start coating them for painting. maybe get the Gatling gun arm done finally.

paulfierce - oh yes, I saved all the files and vacuform bucks, if someone wants one for their war machine, pm me.

Not trying to get you to do extra work with a razor knife, was just wondering how you got such clean shapes:). The whole build looks great!!

What substance are you going to use to coat the foam prior to painting? Spray sealant?

I am building a War machine also but using cut up trashcans for the chest, gaunts, and legs glued down on thick foamies for depth. Thanks for the information.

Wow, glad I slowed down, the chest was a *****! I just got the back worked out finally, here are some pics. I created that jig for the face front so i can glass it. I just finished the glassing and now for the stomach and waist. Then I can start the coating and painting, man, all weekend and only the one part, it sucks when there's no time. So now that I glassed the shelf for the gun mount, I can bolt it down and get the mini-gun arm to balance properly.

Final fitting before painting. I'm coating the surface with a dyed rubber vinyl called "plasti-coat", then I'm painting over that. I'm texturing the surface to look like burnished metal, I'll dry brush with silver over that. I hope the next set of pics after this is the suit done. :lol

Looking awesome!! Looking massive also, especially the pic of the back armor. You really nailed how far the back armor should protrude also.

Are you using Plasti-coat or plasti-dip?

I am using a spray paint that has a metallic "Hammered" look. Keep up the progress pics. Thanks.

Were in the home stretch now! coating and painting, ah the fun and tedious task of stippling texture. Have the arms (lower, upper and shoulders) done, lower legs and thighs almost done, helmet (minus the face-plate) and next is the chest. Still need to make the feet (shoes) and the waist and stomach plates. I don't think I'll be done by Saturday, but maybe this weekend. :lol

Nicely done and coming together swimmingly. This has been an enjoyable thread to watch come together. Keep up the good work, mate.

Re: War Machine Costume
Extremely impressive and inspiring.

Is this what you are using??

Nope, that's some of the paint I use to paint it, but honestly, I've gotten the coating from a supplier out here, I'm not sure if they're online. I think it's called JK something?:crydamn, where did I put that invoice.
