WAR MACHINE Costume -SUIT UP TEST VIDEO -First Post

Re: WAR MACHINE - Race to Halloween 2012 - SUIT UP Mobility Test - Sept. 13. 12

Its a shame that your suit will be done before mine although I started almost a year before you lol.

Anyhow everything is looking good, really makes you look like a tank.......in a small package jk haha
Keep up the awesome work, and on a side note, I'm interested in seeing your molding and casting tut

That's Ok buddy. You'll have it done this year. You put a lot more effort into your mark 6 than my mark 6. I rushed mine. Makes me wish I didn't.
I would have liked to have kept it if it turned out as well as yours.

hey i know this sounds like a stupid question but in reference on straps and buckles do u do that before or after sealing the foam??
I do it before I seal.
How are your shoulder bells attached? Straps and buckles from upper torso or velcro from your shoulders?

Still working on it buddy. It's coming along quite nicely though, hoping to finish by Halo-ween this year. Thanks for asking, I appreciate that. :D
Hopefully you can show me some pics when you're done.

Great vid, do you use a wet suit or a lycra suit under the armor?

Just some lycra pants and shirt.

Looking really nice so far Stealth. You where one of the main people that inspired me to start my costume building and with out your YouTube vids I think I would have had to do a huge amount of searching. In fact I just got back from buying red and black elastic and some silver fabric paint as I will be painting the mechanics on my undersuit so if there are any gaps you will still see details in there.

Looking forward to seeing this one all finished up,
Tom.
Thanks Tom
I've seen your build and it's so clean it hurts my eyes. :eek

Re: WAR MACHINE - Race to Halloween 2012 - SUIT UP Mobility Test - Page 3- Sept. 13

Man love the build and have enjoyed watching all your progress thus far. Very clean and looks really good! I knew you turning one out would be a good build but you have gone above and beyond on this one.

2 things:

1) Thanks for all the tutorials out there I have watched every one multiple times and can't thank you enough for these. Seeing the creative process for these builds and the other tutorials has become invaluable for me just getting into this hobby over the past few years. Thanks for the contributions and your efforts!

2) a critique of the armor:

Everything looks awesome. All the lines are nice, I like the tight and bulky look. One thing that stands out to me is the rear of the Cod piece. Looks like that part in the rear is sticking out just a bit too much. Not sure if it was intentionally built like that for movement. When you were spinning around I noticed at one point I could see through the Cod piece in the rear. It was around :34 and again at :46 - :47. Looks like if you pulled it in just a bit in the rear the lines would line up just a little more and snug it up just a little.

I really like the foam / clay approach then molding and casting. Have not even tried out a foam build yet, doing pep / fiberglass / bondo so far. But I am thinking the foam / sculpt / mold would be pretty fun.

When I was looking through your videos what are you using to make your molds and what are you using to cast with?

The farther I get into my own Mark VI build the more I am thinking I want to do a mold and cast. Instead of wearing the original. Would make it much easier when I want to do another suit and could cast of the original part if it doesn't change.

I believe he answered it here on post #54. Good looking out though.:thumbsup
I plan to make a few more sections of the spine to fill that gap and I need to trim/shape down the cod so it's more flush with my A** ...lol

Yup lol

I caught that.
Thanks for the heads up though Raine

I was actually going to ask you guys, cause I wasn't sure at first.

Your shoulders look killer. I struggled with making mine and eventually went with a different look.

Did you use the foam files you posted up before on this or freehand it? I love the bulkyness of your forearms. I built mine from the high def pep files serious like 4 times and finally got to a size that fits my arm but it's soooo streamline and now that I started doing my biceps they look so puny against it and I'll have to redo them again. I'm thinking of possibly doing the arms in foam mostly most because of comfort and mobility.

I always modify my pieces and slim down/widen, add details etc. They're never really the way the templates are laid out.
It will be hard to get the look you want unless you do that.

Stealth,

Looking great as always, quick question for ya. Does that Iron Man mask in the video have clay on it? Just wondering if you get your helmets to a certain stage with pep and bondo, then switch to clay to finish before molding and casting?

Thanks!

Re: WAR MACHINE - Race to Halloween 2012 - UPDATE- Page 3- Sept. 20. 12

Yeah, oil based clay. I resin/fiberglass then sand down just a little to bring down the edges from where the pieces are joined. (Polygonal edges) , then sculpt.

The clay is replacing the bondo. Then mold and cast when the sculpt is done.

Ive been meaning to try that for the last year now, but I always put off buying the clay, looks like it works good. Keep up the good work.

Thanks man. I've been dying to try this myself. I ordered a block of chavant nsp medium and hard yesterday to see which I liked best. What kind do you like?

Re: WAR MACHINE - Race to Halloween 2012 - UPDATE- Page 3- Sept. 20. 12

I've been using crappy klean Klay. I actually removed all that clay last night from the Iron Manhelmet. It's just too soft. I switched to monster clay. It's a lot better. Much more sharper. I'll hardly have to sand much on the cast if it keeps going well.

Nsp medium seems to be the default best choice I think
