War machine 1st attempt

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

Yep I like War Machine's cannon mount A LOT better than the Patriot's. Keep up the great work!

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

You know what i noticed that this pep is kinda functional..i was wondering why the lower part of the top were the gun attaches to base of gun its not attached to arm..i know why..because as the arm moves up and down it pushes it in or out..you can see in the pictures the tip is vertical at all times..not sure if you understood but here are some pictures....i will be doing this fiber glassed then internals metal half inch tube...

also i noticed on some pictures of arm they show a spring under the arm maybe to help it up or something..i will be adding mine in..with the metal it should be able to hold it..It will be used like a shock almost so the whole gun and arm won't put stress on the back party of torso..that's just a thought though..I'm 80% sure it might work..lol..
You can see it I'm this picture..
Hope you understood everything i said I'm sick so i took some medicine..so i feel a little drowsy..so nomore cutting or hot gluing for me tonight..lol..

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

Lol ...so no one knew what i was talking about?.well i will be building it in a few days i have to get my welder out of the shed...on the bright side i got some metal tubing and metal rods I might be using with the square tubing...also some 22gauge sheet metal..some roller bearing slider for gun..didn't even know they sold that instead of a regular drawer rollers that go on the side these go right under the drawer so it will be better..pictures tomorrow.forgot to take down stuff from truck....

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

Lol, if you're talking about what I think you are, I thought it looked like a spring assist like what is used on magnifier arms/ etc... That would make sense to me, but I'm probably way off.

Yes....i think that's what I'm talking about also..lol..

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

LoL! No, I got it my friend, just eager to see how you make it work. I might still go with a fixed arm for my mk 1 War Machine, but a self leveling gun platform would be nice too. I am working on figuring out a counter/ spring system that can use conventional 1/4 scale r/c plane servos, but might have to go worm geared motors wired through an arduino. A gun with spinning barrels and noise maker is heeaavvyy!
Can wait to see what you build. You might just build an under frame for the mech and make glassed pep covers?

man. . .those arms. . . .i want to pep them out but i don't have the courage to cut those tabs xD

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

Looks really good. im in the process of makin an ironman statue rather than a suit

A few weeks back i was thinking of just making it in to one but then i don't want to regret it later

That's what I'm thinking of doing metal under and peps as covers..i want to finish it add the functional parts but worry about electronics after..

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

For me, Vision= totally robotic, Arduino arm.:cool
Reality= non motorized. Motion done by hand. :cry
My goal is finish the armor accessorize later.:popcorn
I hope you succeed wildly so I can copy!:lol
M
PS. Do you have any really good reference pictures of the back between the rockets? My reference photos are all bad angles! Any help is super appreciated!

not really i had some but my phone went out on me and i formatted my card n lost my pictures..but i got most of them on google..wasn't really looking until now that I'm building the arm for gun when i do..you'll be the first one to know..

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

This is off topic but i found this.. these were my attemps on my sons buzz light year costume ..i had extra styrofoam from my fish tank projects so we were messing around...freehand...i was going to seal them and bondo and paint..but never finished..now since i joined here..i learned about eva foam..so no buzz....he wants a iron man suit...

I know it sucks..but my son was loving it

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

Ok guys here's a little update i know it doesn't look like much but in my head it does...lmao..
Well here's the slide i said..it has bearings and can withstand up to 100lbs so well see about that..lol..

20130114_182551.jpg

I trimmed it down
20130114_182619.jpg

Then i trimmed the center so its will be even so it slides great nowi need to find the right height to put it then figure out how I'm going to cover it..
20130114_190912.jpg

This pieces don't look like much now but its the start of the arm the upper and lower..

20130114_202838.jpg

Like i Said before its going to be metal and the peps will be hiding it
20130114_202903.jpg

The lower arm will have an movable rod going in the middle of the two outter pipes..for movement..them in the center i will have one threaded rod with two bolts to extendor retract the lower part of arm to adjust the guns angle its not in picture....its hardly going to get used but its just for adjustment...here's the rod inside the two pipes
20130114_203155.jpg

Then again extended..it fits tight in there just the way i like it..lol..there is hardly any play..

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

I think you will probably need to cut the inner track so you will have full left to right motion.. Have you considered mounting the track inside the torso and having only the armature, say a thin bar of aluminum running out to hold the gun mount?

There would be much less to cover on the surface of the armor so you wouldnt ruin the appearance and you'll be able to mount servos to move the arm left and right.

Here is how I have been doing mine;:popcorn

backtrack_zps3182cb0c.jpg

I have alread cut off those "ears" so all I have is a flat plate to mount too!

backtrack2_zps0c0aaa6c.jpg

I like this track as even bent it still rolls easy and it has that cool plate to mount the armature too!:cool

Hoping to cut the slit on top of the torso and start building the armature soon!

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

Electraflier I already cut the center it shows in one of the pictures...i still haven't decided on positioning of track but i didn't think of putting it inside i..will check later today
Thank s.

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

Cool! I see now in the third pic! You can probably leave it on top as I have a pic that shows a slotted cover over the exit site on the torso.

I might leave it there the shorter the distance the better i guess..eventually when i finish gun and arm might weighta bit do the l shorter the bracket the better..did you figure out how your going to attach it to the base of gun? I'm still tying to figure it out..

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

I was looking for a tiny Lazy Susan bearing set but the smallest I found was a 3 inch which is way too large. I actually took apart a bearinged castor wheel for a cart. It's base is 1 in square has bearings and the arms that held the wheels axel should be able to be used to mount the gun!

I used thrust bearings on my cannon proto, and they worked perfect. You can find them in all different inner and outer diameters, metal or otherwise.

No, I don't buy my hardware from Amazon, but you can get a good idea of what's out there searching here:
