War machine 1st attempt

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

So i was thinking..when you build subwoofer speaker boxes people use fleece some of the time..so why can't we use it for our projects...i think If out can handle the pounding of the woofers it can handle us..lol..well i found some fiber glass that i had in my shed i know i have another one somewhere..But for now it will do..so going back to the fleece..you think we can use other cloths? Well were going to find out today..well tomorrow because i left it to dry....heres what we got..i have lots of white cotton shirts from work that don't look to white anymore or have stains...and Jean material...

So i got a clean card stock paper for testing.i resin the paper and placed the pieces..the cotton white short absorbed it the fastes then the fiberglass last the Jean...so i applied another coat to top...
Here it is without resin.

Here it is with resin

After a few minutes the jean seemed drier than the other two like it soaked in most of it..so i will let you know which one was better..maybe the fiberglass may be better but for the people that are on a Budget it May be thebest solution..sorry i had no fleece but i will try to get someor get an old baby blanket that we have...we'll see tomorrow...

Another thing to save some money i bought these cups to mix at Walmart..their nice Because they have the measurements on there..they were 89 cents...

...
Heres a tip for those that don't know..like me..if you mix wrong or take your time and your resin begins to gel leave it alone in the cup don't take it out...should look like this...

Hers a trick when its completely dry..squeeze it turn it and squeeze again..you will hear crackling and breaking noises..its not the cup our will be the resin..

Turn it around...tap it a little..

Take the resin out or our should slide out...and you will save on buying cups....

20120902_214431.jpg

Then you can clean it some more if you want but should look like this after it slides out

Also for brushes i saved 5 or of seven..you can get laquer thinner to clean them...i know you can buy cheap ones but for those that have Some thinner you can save some money....
Also..use gloves..resin n thinner is bad when you get some on you out starts to burn..use in well ventilated area..but you all should know that by now...

Sorry about my spelling..my rambling..and my punctuation..I'm on my phone and it misspells words ..and I'm nitty that great either..lol...

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

So after my little experiment..the white shirt looks good...its flexible so out would have to be used on stuff that is more flexible maybe I'll use it on the back of the cod piece..its really flexible and stays in ours same shape..the fiberglass got really hard...i guess right for the armor..the jeans well i Bent it the same way i did the other it actually saw where it bends..But then again i bent it to almost a circle..lol.....well anyways i fiberglass the inside of my helmet and parts of my chest..

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

Went to home depot got more goodies...have another gallon of resin and a few more cups....

Here's how the torso looks yes it looks ugly but its really hard doesn't flex..i still have to finish it up then work on other parts..i haven't cut or glued anything recently im letting my fingers rest...

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

Nice! The fiberglassed popsicle sticks are a great idea, i had some on a few sides of mine but removed them after the fiberglass cured, keep it up :)

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

I have a few updates...first picture...it was my best friend today..i tried sanding with palm sander took forever..i took my grinder out..it was really fast i had a coarse and medium grit..i left the coarse..that way when i use bondo it will stick better..you can see in the cod that i had some resin cure before i even spread it but with the grinder i took care of it....you can see some pictures of the part that goes between the abs and the chest piece...you can see is darker on one side i glued it to the chest piece to get the right shape..then when it harden enough to hold its shape.i removed it to finish it then i cleaned it up..

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

No one liked my idea? Lol....was just wondering if it will even work..wad going to do a similar thing with the abs...

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

Yeah lol, i like it, but im just going with movable abs because i think nobody is going to see the neck with the warmachine pods on each side of the head, just my opinion , but its looking promising, looking forward to see more updates:)

I think you'll still be able to see the front though maybe the back...but well see how it looks..

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

How do you change the scale in Pep ?
Can't think of my head but that i remember..you go on the 2D part scroll down to the rescale or recalculation..them change the bottom number to the scale you want..

Re: War machine 1st attempt...

I like your idea Don, it's just no one see's the neck in that tank of a suit to really matter. It's a cool idea though. Do it like the hot Toys model. It has a bit of articulation in the front of them.
