Wand Company Pip-Boy Kit

I received the Fallout 76 Pip-Boy kit as part of my loot haul for the release of Fallout 76 and assembled it while loading the game and in subsequent days. It is really nicely presented with all tools present and a lovely box with metal hardware and data plate.

It was tricky to assemble as some of the button parts are very small and fiddly, but the final assembly is sturdy and comfortable to wear, unlike the previous Fallout 4 Pip-Boy. The assemble pip boy will fit nicely in the box but you will have to discard the molded parts trays.

The only assembly glitch I had was the clear plastic tray over the movable radio tuner dial locked up the assembly every time I inserted it. It appears it was clamping down on the pointer and as it is moved by a rubber band pulley arrangement it just stopped working. I overcame this by leaving the clear plastic out with no problems, the slot is so small it is not evident it is left out.

The dummy Nixie Tubes are just clear plastic domes with no internal detail but they are not that visible behind the metal grill. Though there are no electronic or lighting parts the internal spaces seem almost custom made to include them so adding them during construction seems very possible. The Holotape ejection mechanism is simply two buttons on the side being depressed and the tray pulled down, you then pull the tape out. The "eject" button is no functional. Basically tricky to do while wearing the Pip-Boy so not a one handed operation.

This prop would shine with a decent weathering job, though it is by no means as plasticy and toylike as the FO4 version. It would also be awesome with an aftermarket light and sound package.

I am seriously looking at getting another and "doing it better!"

Cheers

Tony
