Walking Dead Sheriff Uniform

It is a six inch Python... and law enforcement has never really used six inch revolvers, either... we've been over this...

Also, any .357 magnum revolver can also utilize .38 Special cartridges. The idea was that you could use cheap .38 rounds for training and only use expensive .357 magnum rounds for "real" use... of course, training with weak rounds and using significantly more powerful rounds when your life depended on it was not a good habit...

The Colt Boa was actually a limited run made in the mid-eighties (the Python was around since the fifties) that was also .357 magnum... the Wikipedia article has accurate information about the history of the weapon, if you're interested...

Also many smaller departments don't issue weapons. It's on the individual officer to purchase their own duty pistol.

With that in mind, I wouldn't definitively say no cop ever carried a 6-inch .357 magnum.

Oh, I didn't mean that NO ONE has ever carried a six-inch cannon around... just that it would be extremely rare.

As rare as, say, a department that forces guys to buy their own guns... I know it happens, but especially these days with liability concerns, I'd think it'd be rather uncommon...

Anyway, in twenty plus years of carrying a badge and a gun, I've never seen a 6" revolver on anyone's hip aside from way back when I used to work private security, and there was this one guy who had a freaking 6" S&W 29... I think the dude had watched Dirty Harry one too many times. I'm still not convinced that the State issues security carry licenses for .44 magnums, but whatever...

I know of at least one in Florida, but you're right that the department limits what can be carried.

Also, I can definitely see rural (i.e. southern) sheriff depts carrying revolvers so they can live out their "old west" dreams.

Clearly forty years ago some officers wore 6inch revolvers, but you're right I haven't seen anything like that in a really long time.

I'm currently putting together a Rick Grimes cosplay and I was just curious if anyone had run into any legal issues? what is the line of imitating a police officer and costume?

Don't wear it except in areas where others are also wearing costumes, and don't do anything that could be interpreted as acting like a peace officer.

Basically, I would only wear this kind of costume on private property, or during a major event where there are lots of other people in costume, like a major convention.

If there are any law enforcement agencies in the area where you plan on wearing it that have similar uniforms, I might not even put it on.

Thanks, obeseboy69!

I sent them an email a while back asking for a shipping quota for two pairs of pants, but have yet to receive a reply.
Looks like I'll have to place an order and cough up 160 dollars according to the website...
But what do you do?
That's what one pair of Levi's jeans will set you back over here.

Akin got it exactly right! I can't stress this enough ...

My first outing the locals wore navy uniforms so I figured I was GTG, then the FHP showed up. Their uniforms are very similar and it lead to an awkward frisking before letting me go. :unsure Best thing is to always be calm, cooperative and polite. They're just doing their job.

I would think bloodying yourself up a bit would get the point across as well. Even if you are in a group of costumers, there are usually LEOs around as well.

I'm surprised there aren't more season 2 and season 3 Ricks running around. I would think they would be cheaper and more fun cuz you get to dirty up. I guess it would be slightly less recognizable, but if you can get a decent fake ax or fabricate a Gerber Gator, I would think people would get it.

Sadly, unless you're at a con, I found very few people recognize the outfit.

Although, I didn't have time to properly bloody or dirty my shirt up.

You hit it, I think... once out of uniform, Rick is pretty generic... just some guy with a gun belt. I doubt many people would recognize the outfit...

thanks for the info! Yeah, i was thinking about dirtying/bloodying up my costume, i haven't watched season 1 for a while and was just a little worried about authenticity, but then again I'm not sure I care. An axe is a good idea too. I think people don't do the later seasons as often because it isn't as obviously rick with out the uniform, you're just some dude wearing dirty clothes that (in my case) isn't as manly as Andrew Lincoln :)

They've changed it at least twice. I'm a couple of episodes behind, I'll try to catch up and see if I notice another change...

When have the other times been? just this season? If it is no longer basketweave would this be the first time it isn't?

Not sure when it was, but I think they might actually have used a two-strap holster in the bar shooting scene... might have to check again...

And, I've yet to see a non-basketweave holster. Like I said, I need to catch up...

lol when i scrolled down the first picture I seen I thought "wow this guy looks just like Shane!!" lol
Costume looks great!

I have to say I haven't ever noticed them change his holster. This season is still the same holster as always... I could be wrong but it seems to be a constant with his costume. Here's a couple ref shots I have from S3.
