It is a six inch Python... and law enforcement has never really used six inch revolvers, either... we've been over this...
Also, any .357 magnum revolver can also utilize .38 Special cartridges. The idea was that you could use cheap .38 rounds for training and only use expensive .357 magnum rounds for "real" use... of course, training with weak rounds and using significantly more powerful rounds when your life depended on it was not a good habit...
The Colt Boa was actually a limited run made in the mid-eighties (the Python was around since the fifties) that was also .357 magnum... the Wikipedia article has accurate information about the history of the weapon, if you're interested...
