VX poison gas string of pearls from The Rock

Knowing I'm a big fan of The Rock (1996, Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage), three of my good friends (including the RPF's own Fluxcapacitor) made me a replica of the VX poison gas balls in the string of pearls configuration and gave it to me as a Christmas gift. It was an awesome surprise and totally blew me away with how great it looks and how quickly they put it together. Just thought I'd share it with you guys.

The balls are thin glass Christmas ornaments filled with aloe vera gel. My friends said drilling the balls was incredibly frustrating and they had a 90% failure rate! Just transporting the completed prop to my home was a very risky proposition. They told me not to look at it wrong because it's held together with hot glue and hopes and dreams.

They even gave me a "making of" CD with pictures and videos of the process (yes, my friends are awesome). If any of you are interested, I can post some of that stuff, too.

They used Banana Boat Aloe Gel. The bubbles were already there. They just had to successfully drill the holes in the glass balls and fill them. Another VX ball replica maker told me he also used aloe vera gel, but he added a drop of water to each ball to enhance the bubble effect. Along with the pictures, I included a video showing the filling of a ball.

Rose-colored glasses, Flux. I recall you guys telling me there was tons of cursing and wondering why you guys decided to embark upon such an involved project at the last minute. But I love it and am glad you did. The effort alone made it the best present any friend has ever given me. The actual results made it a gift for the ages. Thanks again!

Holy crap. I can't imagine trying to drive with glass ornaments filled with goo and still expect to have a prop at the end of the road.
