Villains Cast in new Batman Movie: "The Dark Knight Rises"

CB.

I think you need to just let it go bro. I don't get them casting her for the role either... But it is what it is. Maybe we will get an interview with Nolan and he will tell us why. Until then, no one can answer that question.

This thread is about the movie. Let's get back to that.

Not inception. Not english class. Not even turtles! ( I too like turtles)

Batman: the Dark knight: rises: again. :lol

I am yet to be persuaded that Catwoman is a good character. But then again, i said the same about The Master, and Russell T. Davis really brought him to life.

I've actually been talking to someone I know via Facebook. They've pointed out to me that they shouldn't use Bane as one of the villains of the film, and he went on to list nearly all the Rogue Gallery.

I had to explain to him that most of them can't be used because of the "real world" design that Nolan brought to his version of the "Batman" universe. My response: "Short of making Poison Ivy a female Serial Killer, the Penguin a new mob-boss and the Riddler a hitman, the others on the Rogue Gallery list are impossible to fit into the Nolan-verse of "Batman." Seriously, if they had the Mad Hatter, Clayface or even that guy with the puppet in the next film, people would leave the theater half-way through the film."

My point is that the more fantastical Rogues in the Gallery would not work in Nolan's version of "Batman." There's only a small number that can plausibly be placed in that world. Though Bane may be considered the lesser out of all the Rogues, if they avoid the "superjuice" aspect of Bane, he could very well be plausible as a right hand man. Even the comics version of Joker couldn't even exist in the Nolan version of the world. What it took was taking some of core details and twisting them to create the Joker in "The Dark Knight." The prank pulling Joker of the comics, the Joker who would pull out a pair of chattery teeth or a gun with a "bang" flag that pops out is far away from the Joker in the film. And it's a good thing, as if he pulled out a pair of chattery teeth, he would have become nothing more than a parody of the Joker.

And I get that people would be hesitant of using Bane. But my money is that he's going to be a right hand man, not the main villain.

I remember thinking how dull a movie it seemed when I heard Screcrow and Raz Al Ghul were the villains of BB - but boy was I wrong. Nolan will find a way to make them interesting. I for one wouldnt mind a little stretching out into the more incredible storylines at this point, as long as it isnt overkill. For example, it wouldnt bother me if Bane was a mutant-like being, as long as there was clever science fiction behind it. I for one am excited most to see the new Wayne Manor and the bad*ss high-tech batcave underneath. What new vehicles will we see? New batmobile? Batwing? No matter how it compares to TDK, it will be awesome for sure.

Why would the Riddler be a hitman?

He'd be a terrorist; like the Unabomber.

What'd be the point of him being a terrorist? It'd make sense if he were a hitman, as a means of toying with his targets. Think of him being a hitman and he sends his intended targets riddles in the mail. And then when he shows up, he checks to see if they got the answers right. If they get all of them right, he kills them. If they get a certain number of them wrong, he cuts off pieces of them. If they get all of them wrong... Well, you get the idea. The Joker, basically, was the Unabomber in the Nolan-verse "Batman."

Basically, the Riddler would be sort of like Anton Chigurh from "No Country for Old Men" or Krait from "The Good Guy" by Dean Koontz (Krate is a psychotic cop who breaks into peoples houses, lives in the place for a bit before deciding if the owners should be killed or not). He works better like that than a terrorist.

Well, obviously a new Batmobile is going to needed since the Tumbler was destroyed in the last film. Batman still has the Batpod, but seriously not as intimidating as the Tumbler was. I really don't see the Batwing as it was in the comics or in the Tim Burton film as being a valid mode of transportation for Batman in the city of Gotham. But if it were like a Harrier Jump Jet, it'd make sense for it to be there. It'd be a better idea to have the Batwing be like the Harrier instead of having a Bat-copter.

So.. um.

Do you think they listed Hathaway as Selina Kyle and not Catwoman because:

1. She won't be Catwoman (as we know her) in the film.
2. She will be Catwoman, they were just trying to be 'clever.'

I still haven't seen a Nolan film that I've left satisfied with. I thought Batman Begins was simply poor. Dark Knight faired a bit better - Heath Ledger stole the film and it was an improvement over Batman Begins, it still wasn't as great as I felt most people made it out to be. Inception, well... they tried - I still don't get the love for that one, either.

I hope Dark Knight Rises is a better overall film than the previous two Nolan Batflicks. I'm sure they won't get a performance like the one Ledger gave - but, I can hope for a better overall storyline - BUT, with Bane my hopes are very, very low.

I think they're going to pull of what they did for Harvey Dent. They didn't mention "Two-Face" when they casted him, but he became "Two-Face" in the film and then killed him off in the same film. They're probably going to do the same. They'll have her start as Selina Kyle and then become Catwoman in the film.

In a way, I'm glad that there's still debate in this thread about Anne Hathaway and her drop-dead-gorgeousness-level.

Gives the perfect excuse for excellent people like Larry and Nick Daring to prove 'em wrong with those pics!

Thanks for brightening up my day :)

No, I'm suggesting that she hasn't done anything that warrents her even being an option for playing the role of Selina Kyle and Catwoman. Every film she's be in, she's always played the same character, which is always whiney and indecisive. In "Havoc", her character was a whiney and indecisive high schooler. In "The Princess Diaries", she was a whiney and indecisive young girl who became a whiney and indecisive princess.

Oh my god. Opinions varying is one thing, opinions varying THAT much is something else. I thought Princess Diaries was a pretty decent little romcom starring a very obvious future A-lister. Whiny and indecisive? She was funny and hawt, I'd have said. So was she whiny and indecisive in 'Ella Enchanted', or did she kick arse and belt out a bloody good Queen cover? Was she whiny and indecisive in "Get Smart", or did she totally wear the pants?

Just not understanding that one.

Larry, the pics surely equal empirical proof, you'd think, right?!

Too bad for a character like Batman, with a great Rouges gallery of Villains that Nolan's seems to only want to reuse characters others used just a few years ago... Same villains we have seen on the big screen before.
I guess I give him credit in the first one for at least being a little original with Ra's Al Ghul.
Come on Chris, stop with the remakes. Lots of characters in the bat-universe, try something...new.

Having worked with Marion Cotillard in Inception, I'm surprised Chris Nolan didn't cast her as Catwoman. She's way more classy than Anne Thataway:

Like I said I can deal with Hathaway as Catwoman and don't understand the big hoopla about her more that who the cast for Bane to me that is where the real argument should be.

I think the Hathaway as Catwoman thing is a big hoopla primarily because Catwoman is more of an iconic character that has been around as long as Batman has in publication than Bane.
