Various Marvel Helmets I’ve Painted

Hey folks. I don’t usually stop by this section of the board as I didn’t really have a big marvel collection, but recently I’ve been on a bit of a marvel kick and finished quite a few helmet projects that I figured I should share.

First up we have a Hasbro Legends Ant-Man helmet. Pictured is a clients helmet, but I painted my own copy at the same time and it is identical. Painted with Alumaluster and automotive paints. Next to that is a Bor helmet from Thor: The Dark World. I don’t know who sculpted it unfortunately but the file was shared with me via WoodstedStudios on Instagram. Again, Alumaluster, but this time with a custom made gold candy on top. Then we have Loki, expertly sculpted by Vek3D on Instagram. Based in a metallic black with lighter metallic tones applied on top, and finished with another candy gold Finally, Jane Foster sculpted by MaffhewDC on Instagram. Chrome and Createx Candy2o for the red.

Next up are some quick Daredevil cowls I painted in the Netflix and She-Hulk color schemes. File by DO3D with modifications.

Finally, for now, we have MK.49 “Rescue” helmet. Once again sculpted by Vek3D, this is an awesome helmet. I decided to shift the main color more towards blue instead of the original purple, so I based in an automotive color, I think electric blue Pearl or something? Then I shot a few things on top including interference blue and cosmic sparkle blue. Just a personal preference thing.

I also have an Ian Mckellen Magneto helmet in the works, again sculpted by Vek3D. I’ll update this thread with pics of it when it’s finished up, and if you want to see any of my other paint work you can check me out on Instagram at Instagram.com/JackRupert133

Always love your work!

How’d you achieve the brushed metal look on the M49 helmet?

Sean

Thanks Sean. The brushed finish is super easy, just take a Scotchbrite pad and gently run it over the surface of the final clear coat doing your best to keep the lines straight. On the MK.49 I wanted subtle lines so I used a grey Scotchbrite pad. I used a red pad on my Killerbody faceplate repaint so I’ll share that so you can see the difference.

I only painted the gold here, the red is stock from Killerbody. I’ll try to snap better pics of this when I can but hopefully the difference from the grey pad to the red is apparent.

Here is my final Marvel helmet for now. I do have a Battle of NY Cap cowl to sand and paint but I don’t know when I’ll get to it. Anyways I based this in a custom mixed automotive magenta. I shot a Candy orange on the highlights, and a deep magenta for the shadows. A little random fun fact, my friend Sam at Imperial Surface mixed me up a MK III Iron Man base coat and there is a ton of that in this color mix. Model by Vek3D once again.

I know the real helmet has some weathering but I am keeping this one clean, think it will look nicer on the wall that way. Thanks for looking folks.

Hey folks. I am bumping this thread up to share some more of my work on Marvel helmets. The first of which is this Captain America (or Captain Falcmerica as I call him) helmet in white. I do have the blue helmet finished and in the pipeline for photos. I will share it in a few days.

I also have a clean War Machine MK II paint job and a very weathered MK 50 Iron Man, so please stick around to check those out. I will also have some more in-depth write ups and additional photos on my Instagram (@jackrupert133) so please follow me over there.

Adding the photos as “thumbnails” below because they open up very big. Hope you enjoy.

Hey guys, thanks for your comments!

I haven’t had a chance to weather the MK50 yet, but here is a teaser of it so far. I had to stop to focus on some Wolverine cowl commisions, but I will come back and finish this up with weathering and some eye lights when I can. I also added a cellphone photo which shows the gold a little better.

Outstanding workmanship! Mr Mold Maker - any chance you can share your Wolverine cowl projects?

Thanks! And thanks again to those above.

Sure, I can share photos of the Wolverine cowls when they are done. I’m doing a relatively clean cowl and then the battle damaged “end scene” cowl. I will share photos of both in about a week or two when they are finished.

Here is a teaser of the Wolverine cowls. The “end scene” cowls will be weathered further from here, I just didn’t want to go too far without the wings being attached. The cleaner cowls are essentially done. I’ll upload photos sometime later this week.

Vek3D files. I’ll do a more detailed write up when I post finished pics.

Here are some quick photos of the “clean” and “end scene” versions of the wolverine cowl. I shared some more photos and a short write up for each cowl on my Instagram.

In terms of the paint, I did a few layers of slightly different yellow, splattered and dry brushed on, for the “fabric.” The wings were based in Alumaluster chrome so that I could actually chip the black paint back to a metallic base. I also applied a custom mixed Pearl with a blue to purple effect. File once again is by Vek3D.

Hope you folks dig it. I will get back to the Iron Man MK 50 eventually so keep an eye out for that still.

What head display is that?

Also great work as always.

The eyes are part of the cowl, and the mouth is just something I quickly printed to help with the photos. It is actually a Ben Affleck likeness I sculpted a while back that I warped to fit the wolverine cowl. I planned to use a scan of Hugh for the faceplate but I didn’t have the time to clean it up for printing.
