Vader ROTJ Saber

I didn't know MR was doing the Vader ROTJ saber.

I'll have a better look at it tomorrow at Comicon. It looked pretty good.

It doesn't look like an idealized version either.

Isn't it un-weathered and as such an idealized version?

I loved it from the pics - exactly what I wanted MR to make - but might be just me :D

Here's a pic from RS....

I like it. I would prefer it to be a bit weathered though.

Now shouldn't that engineering prototype be a CS contest prize? :D

I'm surprised that as an idealized version, they chose to include the rivet holes from the ESB conversion.

I thought the same thing - if they are going to add the rivet holes, why not weather it? I still like the saber though, and will definitely pick this one up (even though I already have a real Graflex converted saber).

Truthfully though, to the non-prop geeks, it's going to be difficult to explain why there are tiny holes in the saber, especially since you don't see them on screen.

Afterall, they did get rid of the Graflex logo on the bottom of the Luke saber calling it an idealized version. So why the rivet holes?

It looks to me like it IS slightly weathered on the grips and the doorlatch. Unless that's real damage, or lighting.

YES YES YES. They're finally getting around to it. Y'all do know this saber NEVER got any screen time. The entire fight was filmed using the Barbican saber (some shots prove this, just watch the fight in slo-mo). I think it may have been built for a deleted scene or was built afterward from Luke's ESB stunt just so they could have another Vader hero prop. Interesting enough is that with this prop, Vader regains his old lightsaber he had built before ROTS ;) .

ROTS: Anakin has it. Loses it in a duel.
ANH: Luke obtains it.
ESB: Luke still has it after tinkering with it between ANH and ESB. Loses it in a duel.
(Real world stunt saber converted into new Vader saber for ROTJ)
ROTJ: Altered ROTS/ANH/ESB Anakin/Luke saber in the hands of Anakin/Vader. Loses it in a duel.

Pretty cool eh? :love

Just thought this up.

maybe vader went back for lukes saber in ESB, cause after he saw it he was like... obi wan... you... that was my favorite saber.

so he had his men retrieve it, and he converted it to be his saber for ROTJ. ;) :rolleyes

Yes, an interesting development to be sure. Of course, I'll be picking it up, but I would very much say that it is an idealized version.

I'd have to disagree about this one being the hero and the Barbican the stunt. There's too much info pointing to just the opposite, as I see it. This one even had the rod in it from it's use as a (fighting) stunt saber which was later cut down to a nub. MR idealized that nub too.

The Vader ROTJ saber used to be Luke's ESB stunt saber, which is where the stub comes from. There is no screen footage of what we call the ROTJ Vader saber (since he doesn't wear it for some reason), at least not on the videos and DVDs. All I see in the fight is the Barbican saber, there are just too many shots that have it's details on the saber being used (especially the shot of the pommel that is clearly Barbican, no ESB D-ring or nothing.). At least that's what I see.

This will probably be my first 1:1 MR hilt since the parts for a custom/fan made seem to be drying up.
Weathered or not, at least they added the rivet and screw holes which is a plus to me. I give "props" to MR for adding that detail. If only they went with the asymetrical MoM hex bolts I'd definately be placing a pre-order instead of waiting for the eventual price drop.
I'd still prefer to own this one as a fan made, as I do with all the OT hilts.
