I am flat out in awe of this build. What an incredible feat!

I was also interviewed by Wired.com. You can see the video here:Wired.com Video

That is so awesome. I was wondering how mobile you guys were with those stilts and the bulky plastic , and that video showed there was a fair amount of mobility. I am fricking inspired by this!!!! YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!!

:cool

Not for nothing, but back in 2002 when I was looking to make my own stormtrooper armor, your website at studiocreations.com made it possible for me. Seriously. A couple of years ago I finally sat down and wrote up the project (you can read about it HERE) but it's possibly your fault that I originally started down the path I'm on.

The circle is now complete. When I left you I was but the learner...

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor - Finished Suit Pics on p.17

This has been my favourite build to watch. I felt great just watching it come together, can't imagine the joy you felt to see it finished. Really astounding stuff.

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor - Finished Suit Pics on p.17

Well this looks familiar

Maker Faire 2012: Warhammer 40K Space Marine Armor - Tested

And more amazing than ever D:

I love what you said in the 'tested' interview:
(Referencing the pepakure files creator)
"The intent that that original guy had was 'here's the eight-foot scale, you do the math to figure out how big you need them to fit you'. I figure there's no reason to do math, I'll just make it harder to build."
:D

I'd love to hear more about how you did the hands. The costumes look amazing!

Chris

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor - Finished Suit Pics on p.17

I still need to build another pair of hands and take pictures of the process. With the last minute rush before the Maker Faire, documentation in the workshop started to get a bit lax.

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor - Finished Suit Pics on p.17

That looks great.. Bad Ass.

I found a picture of me assembling a few of the hands:

I still haven't taken the time to build more of them yet.

I really ought to get around to it though. I have two more suits to finish up so I can get them all together for a photoshoot I have planned.

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor - Finished Suit Pics on p.17

I am floored by your attention to detail, craftsmanship, and sheer willpower! Awesome build!

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor - Finished Suit Pics on p.17

Thanks. I've written up a short version of the build on instructables.com and entered it in their "Make it Real" challenge. You can see it by clicking HERE.

Check it out and vote for me to win the contest.

I tried to make it as entertaining to read as possible, so if you're looking for the short version of how I did all of this, you should check it out. Thanks for looking.

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor - Finished Suit Pics on p.17

Hahahaha, brilliant title:D, but where are the other 337steps?:(.. That was quite an entertaining ol read, and even Volpin got in on the action:D, it must have taken quite a while to put together.

.. now i just gotta sign up and vote.

Any future plans for some dexterity in the hands with a wire extension set up?

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor - Finished Suit Pics on p.17

Wow, that is a truly inspirational build! I am so impressed and I take my hat off to you guys! True champions of propping! :D

That was an insightful read. But I must ask, if you were to have a do-over. Would you scuplt, mold and cast the bucks or go the pepakura route like the Space Marine?

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor - Finished Suit Pics on p.17

This is completely AWESOME! Well done!!!

I'd probably do it the same way. I'm comfortable that I can do the sculpt better and faster. There's some good pep models out there, but none that I'm really in love with. The other problem is that the fiberglass forms don't really hold up to all that much in the way of repeated use.

That said, I'm also working on the world's slowest Republic Commando build which I'm doing the Pep way. The main distinction is that if I were to do stormtroopers again I'd want to be able to make many of them. The glassed pep forms would limit production by quite a bit.

I almost never make one of anything I make, so cranking out a platoon of stormtroopers for the heck of it strikes me as a fun project.

This is one of my all time favourite RPF build threads - Well done, man. These are insanely cool!

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor - Finished Suit Pics on p.17

Very nice build! And it's on the Instructables newsletter!

It's really getting a lot of attention over there. The instructable has almost 20,000 views in just over three days. Not too shabby.

Maybe I'll actually win something in that contest of theirs.
