USCM armor started

Hey everyone,

I am starting my long delayed USCM project in remembrance of Chris "FNG" C. I'll post some photos soon.

I really have one question to ask and I hope someone here has the answer. What type of pop-rivet did they use on the screen armor? Is it a type of leather craft pop rivet? When the rivet is attached there is no hole in the middle it is a flat smooth surface.

Hey there,
I am not certain what they are called, but I think the type of rivet that was probably used is not a pop rivet at all.
It would be a two part rivet where you hammer the front and back together.

Solid aluminum rivets were used on the screen used armor and Terry Engilsh's current replicas. The best alternative is the two part rivet you can get at Tandy Leather.

Yea what they said An easy alternative is to go to a JoAnns fabrics and get a jean rivet kit for a few bucks. Sand off the chrome and it is a nice brass underneath. Post some pics!

I have started to paint some armor parts, but I am not real happy with the out come. I am using "Screen used paint" from Humbrol but the colors do not look the same. I am going to "black wash" the parts and see what happens. Also, I am not a good painter:cry

I re-painted some parts this week and I am alot happier with the out come. I still have to do the black wash.

Looking great there mate. I heard the key to getting the colours look right is to use powdered graphite over the top. Gives it the right look.

That German red is not German red....that color is 98 "Chocolate". If you'll go to to the Aliens Legacy board, we have the paint codes archived.
Also, to black wash it, use a black oil paint....the graphite (for me) made the paint look too "shiny" for some reason. It gave it a sheen that was really unattractive.
