Update on my side panel run

Just got done working for the night so figured i'd give a sunday night update.

Just FYI, I cannot view the junkyard at the moment so I can't update my threads there. So if anyone i wondering why that is, this is the reason.

I have shipped the first 2 sets with a few more to follow.

Tomorrow I am waking up early and casting panels all day, same thing tuesday and wednesday.

They take a while to make a set. It's not like a normal run where someone casts a single prop piece. This is a set of 8 so it's a lot of resin slinging.

But it's not really daunting or something that can't be done, just takes time. The way I am going I can cast a set a day or two if I hoof it.

Once I run out of resin by wednesday, everything will be boxed up.

After things ship, I will post on the forum whos shipped.

I don't have RPF names that correspond with my shipping addresses in my paypal so it's hard to post RPF names.

But, I can post first names with last initial to protect privacy if everyone is fine with that.

If you have any direct questions, PLEASE pm me because if anyone is wondering about updates in the junkyard I simply cannot read them.

Hope this helps shed some light on the matter. . People get very nervous with a couple month or more wait and I completely understand that.

In fact, I am moving in August and may even just retire from any SPFX work as i'd rather concentrate on my career. So these orders, which really aren't that many, are the last of it's kind, from me anyway

by the way, I am doing some hero panels for something in between these as well. A lot of research going into lighting set up. As a little bonus I will be making a lighting tutorial and parts list. Might not be something NASA made, but it'll certainly work very well for these LOL

After I post it, I will keep editing open for a bit to see if anyone has anything better to add or they're own personal suggestions

How about just the panels. What's the status on shipping these panels out to people? Didn't this start months ago? We're all very patiently waiting and I have no doubt they'll be done at some point, but you should get us a firm date of shipment. You promised a lot of people sets of these and It would be a lot of money to have to refund if you don't pull through soon.

If it was going to be difficult to fulfill the order maybe it wasn't worth doing for the stress and busyness of your schedule?

Reason why it slowed was because my schedule changed. When I started it I was very free.

But really I want to assure everyone that they will get them. A few people have told me no rush at all because they don't need them for a while, so I can take care of urgent orders.

4 sets have shipped, the rest coming very soon. I can't give a solid date with my schedule

It's very expensive to make these. Molds don't last long. Reason being is because of SO much resin per set putting wear on the mold.

In retrospect, I am spending WAY more than I made on these. That's a fact!

By the end of this month, everyone will have their sets. Trust me, I don't want this to go any longer.

I am also retiring from FX work and leaving the forum as well. I'm absolutely 100% done with the hobby..after tying loose ends, I won't even as so much view a forum or ebay auction pertaining to props in 2009

I am getting back into breeding and researching rare reptiles so I'm out once I fill my obligations.

Hang tight guys..I'm not going anywhere. you guys just need to understand that casting 8 per set is A LOT different than some guy who makes saber knobs or something that take minimal resin and a single casting. If it was a single casting i'd of been done a month ago or more.

Quick update. working a long weekend then start a new job monday in Boston. I am FINALLY using my degree which is SO sweet. Going from making 250$ a week as a line cook to making a high salary is just amazing and I am floating on a cloud right now LOL

Now to the side panels. A few have shipped. I know people are anxious and some people might even be worried, tho no one has PMed me about that but I know it's true. The wait has been ridiculous. it's my fault completely.

BUT, I want to stress. I am not a scammer! People are very worried about things these days because of all the scam artists out there. I am constantly thinking about the side panels when I am not in my shop doing them. I want them done faster than you guys do,..TRUST ME.

This month is a big month. There's no way I can slip into august with them. Just isn't going to happen. I also have the new job so lets say 10 sets get shipped this month a few orders are very pissed for their wait time, I would refund them since money will be good again..so that's worst case scenario

You will never see me disapear on everyone.

One of the slow things with these is that it costs me 90$ every two and a half sets for resin, and 80$ every 5 sets for silicone....just simply because of the amount of resin and wear and tear on the molds.

But things are changing and looking up.

I know it's a long wait guys, but it will ALL be worth it in the end. If anyone has any concerns or want a rough shipping estimate, please do not hesitate to PM me. That's what I'm here for.

I hope I can make everyone very happy in the end and people will say, "I guess ioncanon isn't that bad a guy huh?"

The wait so far is nuts. This corresponds directly with my change in life situation from when I took the initial orders, to where I am now.


Things were crappy for a while, but now things are great and I am very excited about the future.

So please everyone, if you could just find it in your heart to be even more patient with me, July will be a great month for building your han solo in carbonites.

PLus I really want to see pics of what you guys do with the panels after you work on them so please send me pictures afterwards

Dan we have all seen how people can easily get over their head in a run. But by not replying you are just increasing the pressure on yourself, and us.

Bail on the run if needed and refund everyones money. At worst you will be out a bit of cash you spent on silicone. The left over resins etc you could probably sell locally to someone on the JY.

Don't let this turn into another of those threads with dozens of promises to send, with excuse after excuse why you haven't. They never end well. Talk to a mod even, but do something.

Just to play devil's advocate here for a second, But what's he supposed to refund everyone with?

Thankfully, I'm caught up with everyone myself right now, but only by the skin of my teeth...

I know better than some here, how the economics of this stuff works, and it may be pretty close between what money he collected and what money's available for completing the project.

At this late date, wouldn't it be better to just wait it out and at least get your prop eventually? If you press for cash back, it might actually take longer than just getting the finished piece.

The economy sucks right now.

Good call Sarge but I was waiting since March for some pieces that were basically guarenteed to take 3 weeks max. I only got them a week ago. Although I am thankful I feel for all the others still without word ect. Hopefully this can be resolved as the pressure Ion has put himself uder must be alot to deal with every morning.

I see your point Sarge, but have you followed this completely? there are several different threads started by ioncanon all promising the panels and most asking for more people to jump onto this run, even though he was already behind the eight ball.

Some stating how easy this run is going, pouring several sets a day. Most promising shipment over and over and over. One even stating he probably has enough panels done to get the RPF orders done.

But besides Taz I don't think anyone else has seen anything.

I have seen enough of these threads to see where it could be headed, and I am hoping it doesn't, for Dans sake as well as ours.

I suggested refunding the money, because if I had got myself into the same kind of mess it's what I would do. I am not saying it's easy in the slightest, but you find a way. I would much rather lose the money myself than know I am walking around spending someone elses hard earned.

Just as you said the economy does suck, for all of us.

Just another follow up, I would still happily take my order.

I do not want Dan in the crapper financially, or even stress wise.

But I do expect honest answers. Dan just needs to man up and either say he's made a complete balls up and gotten in way over his head or...something!

I am more than willing to help out if he has under estimated shipping. The point is I can't help him find a way out of my part of this mess, if he doesn't reply.

I recently got an e-mail back from Dan today after a month of no avail. In a nutshell, he has taken ill and not get into discussion of what it is, but from what his diagnosis is it's nothing like the flu unfortunately.

In a quote he said to relay this:

"I am really sorry about all this and doing my absolute best to correct it. Right now until other options present themselves, I am casting and shipping 2 sets a week starting this week until it's all over. That's the most reasonable thing I can do at the moment."

He's said too that he didn't realize he was sick until he got into the doctor, so his life is a bit turned upside down, but says he is beginning to continue on the panel orders and gave his word that he isn't screwing anyone and is deeply sorry.

So that is the update. I don't personally know Dan, only that I previously bought some Goonies replicas in the past from him and they did ship fast, but I know this whole panel run is getting everyone (including me) deeply concerned.

Thought you'd all be interested. Hopefully he starts getting some stuff out the door soon and I urged him to at least say something to the people that if something's wrong and no one knows about it, but him, then no one knows why they haven't been receiving product and have came to the conclusion that he isn't pulling through. And as far as his production run, to just be flat out honest and not overpromise something he couldn't deliver as quick as he said. So that was his honest assessment I got.

Hopefully he'll get back on the boards soon though. (and no I haven't received my set yet either)

I'll chime in quick here since I know Dan, he's been a good friend for years now, so I know him pretty well. Also, he does owe me some things too, blank mask, set of teeth, and a laptop computer, so I'm not an outsider looking in, or just stickin up for a buddy. That being said, never for a second have I worried or wondered if he'd make good, Dan's one of the best guys I know, I gaurentee he'll make good on everything he owes. He's goin through something pretty damn tough on him right now, but what he owes is still VERY much in his mind and I know it's buggin him a ton he can't get things out quicker.
