UNTHINKABLE movie with Samuel Jackson

^ Ya sound as old and crotchety as your avatar! :lol

Great movie, just wish it had continued for 5 more minutes... now that would have been an ending! :cool

Mmm I don't mean to be.

I think I just have a problem with actors who don't actually act, and are practically the same character in every movie they're in. Another example is Anthony Hopkins. I don't think they really deserve the money they get.

I am so going all over the internet saying how Sir Anthony Hopkins doesn't actually act, just to see what kinds of reactions I can elicit :lol

Let me see if I can explain a little more. Hopkins (for example) can read the lines and has screen presence, but with very few exceptions, he's always basically the same. The parts he plays are played as Hopkins, not the character. They're mostly the same. Sam Jackson is always the same; Angry Man who is Badass.

However take someone like Ewan McGregor... He's pretty much always different. So is Brad Pitt. The actors play the role, and not 'themselves'.

With few exceptions, you go see Hopkins and you know EXACTLY what you're going to get.

Connery was another. He's a great movie star, but not a very good actor. Hell, he didn't even bother changing accents.

Uhhh - you had me up until Brad Pitt - I totally agree with you on Hopkins, Jackson - but i would lump Pitt in there as well. He and Keanu both couldn't act if they were possessed by thespian spirits. Tell me one memorable performance Pitt has delivered - I think you'll find he has two levels like a cheap washing machine. 1. Brad Pitt and 2. Crazy Brad Pitt (which can be found in things like 12 monkeys) I was watching Interview with a Vampire a couple of weeks back marveling at how bad Pitt is in the movie.

I just find him interesting to watch. You're right about him being Normal Pitt/Crazy Pitt though. Ok, swap him out for Gary Oldman.

Snatch!!!! Not gonna say anymore he was brilliant.

Alright, so then tell me which he is in these films:

True Romance
Meet Joe Black
Snatch
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Burn After Reading
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Inglourious Basterds

Shadowlands Flattens the argument against Hopkins, and Legends of the fall Flattens it for BOTH Hopkins and Pitt. Oh, and I'd Talk about Fight Club, but you know the first rule, so...

i think brad pitt has pretty decent range. but i think fight club is entirely completely ridiculously overrated. alot of that spawns from how much i cant stand ed norton.

i also agree about anthony hopkins. guaranteed, any movie with him involved would bore the hell out of me. he bores me as a person.
and i concur with sean connery. no thanks. im glad he retired.

and im absloutely finished with samuel l jackson. i cant think of the last time he was involved with a film that was worth watching. i mean, pulpfiction was cool. then i started high school.

i want to submit will smith to this lot of overrated talentless actors. and this guy is breeding more horrible talent. his film career's foundation is "welcome to earf."

and that is wrong.

Jim Carrey is also one actor who can't act more than one role, I have yet not seen "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" which i have heard is diffrent.

I started discovering that Good actors and Bad actors existed when i happen to see "Being There" with Peter Sellers, I had previesly only seen him in Pink Panther movies.
I also have remember discovering Alec Guinness as an Great actor by seeing the movie Barnacle Bill (1957 film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think Jim Carrey can do more than one role provided its steering away from the comedy side of things and does a serious role Like Number 23, Eternal sunshine, truman show and man on the moon

The same can be said for most of the comedic actors though. Like Sandler. He is the same in all his movies then he does punch drunk love and reign over me and shows he can have a serious side.
