Underlayer Muscle Suit

I'm looking to make a muscle suit for my new Superman costume I just got. I don't need anything Hulk or Venom sized, just looking to make some of the chest/abs/shoulders pop a bit more in the suit. Any suggestions on where to start with tutorials? I've found a few good threads and videos, but I'm worried about the molding and shaping part of making the "muscles" Any ideas or patterns or models on how to help with that besides just working off of an anatomy chart?

you could glue foam pieces to a basic morph suit them put on your superman suit

I was thinking of something along those lines and they showed pretty good examples in the videos. What I more worried about is the actual carving and shaping of the muscle foam/pads. I haven't been able to find any templates that would work well as a base.

gonna sound strange but some of the fancy dress muscle suits could act as a base, there not very expensive and they have the main muscle groups a lot less messy than cutting up all the foam

Fancy Dress Muscle Suits? Not sure what you're referring to here, do you have a link or photo?

top hit on google for fancy dress muscle suit brings up this. Would all depend on the material of the outfit.

I think your best bet would still be to follow the same method as some of the hulk builds on here. Use upholstery foam over a spandex shirt of some sort. You can carve the foam pretty well with any sharp knife.
When i did my hulk costume i was using 1" foam and had a minimum of 2 layers around the chest and abdomen. for what you want to do i'd imagine either 1 layer of 1" foam that you carve quite heavily or some half inch foam that you just fillet the edges of. It should be possible to create a pretty realistic look.

That sounds like exactly what I was thinking. Did you use anything as a guide or template when carving the foam, or did you just free hand it off of Hulk drawings and/or traces of you own body?

Yeah it was more or less free hand. I might have used some paper or card to mock up and size the major groups first.
another useful source of reference material is to look up bodybuilders. you probably wont want to bulk up to the same level as them but they usually put a lot of emphasis on muscle definition so it makes it easier to pick out the shapes you want. The downside to this is that you end up with some questionable search history.
