UK bans imitation Samurai swords...

seems like they're using a machine gun to kill a mesquito, the Idea that people are using these weapons for murder is horriable, but to out and out ban them seems a tad drastic

Ferk me! Glad I got my Kill Bill 'Bride' and Heroes katana already. :rolleyes

What's next? Banning kitchen knives?

this just in. UK bans import of pointed sticks, rocks, and anything which could be used as a blunt weapon.

*sheesh*

is it ok if the sword is neon pink?

Maybe the British feel that Fake replica swords can hurt the user so that they cannot prosecute them. LOL
What about all the people that do martial arts there in the UK?
Too weird and hard to enforce I would think.
Mobius

Martial arts enthusiasts can still collect swords but again only real ones

THIS is exactly why we, here in the "free" world MUST not allow gun bans, of ANY kind! Ever!
Thank GOD for our Constitution!

IF you give these Socialist/Liberals an inch they will take,..IT ALL!

First the Brits lost their guns, then their toy guns, now fake swords,..and I guarantee it wont stop.
If "they" can prove that at least 5 people were killed with kitchen knifes, "in recent years", then they will ban them too. :rolleyes

If you can not bear arms against your oppressor, even if its your own government, then you are not free.

Look across the pond boys, This can happen here too.

Well, there went bath sponges! :lol

I feel for all the collectors across the pond, it does seem to be getting a little out of hand.

It's because they won't let us have guns. We're British and resourceful; we'll kill people with bath sponges if it comes to it! :lol

Funny you should mention that there were some do-gooders demanding all knives be withdrawn from shelves in all stores because some enterprising young shoplifters removed the anti-theft alarms from the packaging before stealing said knives.
Kitchen knives i think or utility knives certainly wouldn't have been anything more as anything else is already under lock and key.

Well, I'd be thankin' the Founding Fathers instead of God for the constitution seein' as they were smart enough to whip it up. Credit where credit is due, man. :)

There are many countries on this side of the pond, with different governments, (some currently "socialist") but that doesn't make us less free over here. Quite the contrary in many aspects. In the country I currently live in, I can only buy a REAL gun/rifle after belonging to a gun club for six months and taking a test to prove I can handle the thing (and guns aren't really ever needed for "protection" over here). BUT, I can buy any replica gun (without any orange plug or spraypaint), airsoft, sword, computer game, movie... whatever. Basically without restriction.

Also, I could call my boss an idiot to his face if he was giving me a hard time and he couldn't fire me. I can take photos at the mall fountain and not get hassled by security guards. I don't need a permit to take my camcorder out into the street and make a fan film. I can legally enter and walk in just about any forest in the entire country- private property or not. A visit to the doctor's office costs about $50 over here for just about any treatment... and not much more if you need open-heart surgery or something. Just some things I couldn't do if I still lived in NJ (and a couple of the reasons I haven't moved back). That's what I call freedom, and this country has been strongly socialist for the past few decades.

Don't get me wrong... I love the US... it's my childhood home... I grew up there... but while some are looking fearfully "across the pond", bad things are happening under the radar that surpass what is going on over here and I wish it wasn't so.

Not trying to start anything political but I needed to shed some light on the other side of the coin. (It did also relate to prop ownership and acquisition.) It's a travesty what's happening in the UK right now and if I lived there I'd be mobilizing the save-our-props-army right about now. With the first hint of that kind of crap over here I'm gonna be rioting!

There's a huge difference in public perception regarding weapons between the US and the UK. Over here nobody cares about the gun and sword bans except us collectors. Even the protestors against 'nanny-state' policies don't give a damn. They are busy worrying about the introduction of ID cards, collection of personal data and excessive CCTV monitoring (highest in the world).

The concept of weapons as legitmate protection is virtually non-existent, guns are reviled right across the political spectrum.

In the US, your constitution, and the way it has shaped your culture, is a very different beast, and no matter how many anti-gun lobbyists there are, laws like these could never pass in the way they have in the UK.

That's the problem with the UK. You're brainwashed into thinking you're safe and "this and that" aren't acceptable for the public to own.

How do you ensure that you and your families are safe from criminals bent on doing you harm? In the US it's easy, it's the loaded shotgun, pistol, or AK47 sitting at the ready. We don't tote them around or show them off, but they are there IF we ever need them. In many cases they are major deterrent to crimes.

Ever wanted to own an exotic firearm? Even just for the sake of owning it? Ever wanted to go to a proper range and shoot your collection of firearms? Shoot in competitions? Did I mention collect?

Now you, (Brits) can't even own props or replicas. Your monarchy can do as it pleases with you. You are being told what you can and can not do, own, purchace, collect. Why is this accepted? :confused

This Ban in the UK reminds me much of the movie where Christian Bale plays a Klerk. Its a world without feelings and all items of art, music are banned...

What the name of that movie?
