Does anybody know how the actore kept these earpieces in their ears? I'm pretty sure they were aluminum. I have one made of aluminum as well and I've tried several different soft, rubber and silicone earpieces but no matter what I use the damn thing keeps falling out. Is there a special adapter I have to use to keepit in or was it made from something other than metal? Anyone know?

You'd be surprised how simple it is to plug something into your ear and keep it in securely. Few years ago I had my ears filled up with this blue gak like substance and had the results sent out to make custom ear molds for my old shure head sets. They were so secure you couldn't even yank them out.

I have wondered this for YEARS! It seems like being aluminum would be way too heavy to stay in.

I'm not really up to snuff on ST props, but is it a fact that the screen used ones that were actually in the ear were metal? Could they not have been vacuum metalized plastic? I'm pretty sure the VM process was around in the 60's, but I'm not sure of when it WAS invented.

Could there not be plastic and "Hero" aluminum ones out there?

Anybody know where to aquire once of these magical silicone pieces? :confused

Maybe try to get some of those Swimmers ear plugs and see if you can attach it to those?

Those are basically the gooey things in the jar that you form to fit in your ear, not the foam ones. I dunno how you'd attach the ear piece (maybe just jam it in there?) but those ear plugs wont come out unless you want them too

Here's a couple of pics of the screen used prop,
Complete with ear wax DNA lol.

The last pics, showin screen-used pieces, use some molded earpiece. We use that at work and it's not cheap. They inject silicone in your ear to make a mold of it, then they realize the small piece that help to secure something in your ear. Need a long time to be made (mold + piece) and once again, not cheap at all !!

Perhaps you could try at motorcycles accessories shop. They sell some ear protections to fit under a helmet, to avoid turbulance sounds during long travels.

Funky, the truth is, you'll go to all this trouble, stick the thing in your ear for 20 seconds and say, "Fascinating!" then put it back on the shelf where it will sit unmolested for another 15 months! :lol
