Ugly actors.. lets talk about them

The thing that I wonder about is ugly/different kid actors... I mean... how do you as a parent say... "Hey Johnny, here is a gig for a kid that looks awkward, skinny/fat, huge head... that sounds just like you... you'd be perfect for that role!!!” As a parent, how do you tell your kid... well, your ugly so let’s work with that... hahaha

Clancy Brown is actually not a bad looking dude when he's not under tons of makeup or decked out in bone armor.

Actually, when you start to think about it, with the exception of "heavies" like Rondo, Z'Dar ("ooooh z'no..." -- Tom Servo), and others like them, some of the character actors aren't necessarily UGLY, they just aren't as "pretty" as most other Hollywood folks. They'd just be average people if you met 'em on the street. Actually, I tend to think that a lot of the "pretty" ones are probably like that, too. Nice looking, maybe, but not quite the "OMG!!! She's GORGEOUS!" reaction if you saw them in person without perfect lighting, a year of personal training and dieting, and perfect makeup and hair to add to the effect.

I'm no looker myself and the term 'ugly' is shallow and actually quite insulting. All those actors have unique traits about them that keep things balanced. I for one am glad there are interesting looking people in the movies. It also a matter of opinion as to whether people find them 'ugly' or not.
More increasingly however the body beautiful has become something to desire or aspire to have when it comes to movies. All the guys have thick chests and arms, wide shoulders and washboard abs and your regular female movie goer gets all mushy about them. A hero didnt have to be built like that in the past or even necessarily a conventionally good looking guy.
I like the 40's idea of a hero being well dressed, well mannered with a very crisp haircut and sharp wit to boot.
It's true to say that if every actor in every movie was society at large's idea of perfection it would all be very one dimensional.

Austin Powers. There's no denying his rapport with the ladies.
Oh, beeeee-have!

I think we can thank Demi Moore for that. Seems to have started after her movie G.I. Jane in 1997:unsure
What, with all that finely toned muscle??!!
Gratuitous body shots aside, she's exactly the sort I like to see. She wasn't 100% pretty to start with, but damn fine looking still (throwback to A Few Good Men), which is why they picked her - Perfect Poster Girl. But once she 'G.I.ed' up she did look like she could do what she did.

Nah, I'm talking about casting Hillary Swank and Diane Venora instead of Amanda Peet or Isabella-Scorpupca-Thingumy-Bird-In-Goldeneye.
Or even one of these lovely ladies:

"Dear Warrick - George Lucas wants to **** off the world and needs some short actors like you to wreck his trilogy by playing teddy bears. It'll be ranted about for all time, but you will go on to carve yourself a bloody good career!! Sincerely, Dad".

look at the guy who played the Kurgan, Clancy Brown, he's gone on to do long term voice work from WB as lex luthor and others plus been in movies and tv shows.
Starship Troopers, Shawshank, The Powderpuff Girls :)lol), ER, Pathfinder (loved that film) and plus - before any of that, he was flippin' Rawhide in Buckaroo Banzai!!!

THAT is a real acting hero. A man who can go from playing total evil nasties to a Powderpuff Girl character!!!

Is that why I find most modern TV shows so 'meh'?
Because a large percentage of the cast *are* as described above?

Tell me you're a fan of House MD?

You forgot to mention he's Mr Crabs on Spongebob :lol
Oh and of home depot ads on tv.

Ha! not really but Hugh Laurie has certainly turned it around. I hear the ladies love him but i cant help but recall him as prince George in Blackadder.

Game of Thrones has a nice mix of quirky looking actors. Some beautiful, some gritty, some large, some small and there was definitely a grizzled or two in there.

He has also done numerous roles on Trek, Klingons, Jem, Hadar etc, etc

Brian Thompson, Terminator and X-files...that's all i can remember him from. I also confuse him with the guy that plays kurgan in highlander.

What is Home Depot?
I guess it's the US version of B&Q...

Not a fan of Spongebob, although I know an alarming number of grown women who are...

"I'm complex... chicks dig that"
Dr. G. House, speaking to a twelve-year-old kid!!

YES - DEFINITELY!!!!!!!

And he's the main badguy in Cobra.
He's the vanguard of 80s henchmen!!!

He's also in Buffy a lot, I believe...

I know he's all over the place. He was even in two Motley Crue vids from the 80s. I don't think he's ever been out of work as a character actor.

Nope, just the first two episodes, although he does play a big (and funny) role in there.

He was also, I think, Shao Khan in Mortal Kombat 2.

The guy gets around.

The funnies thing about all these "heavies"? They're all supposed to be absolute sweethearts in real life. Every interview or story I've ever read or heard about any of them has nothing to say but how awesome and friendly they were, how they wouldn't hurt a fly, etc. I always got a kick out of that.

Everyone says Ron pearlman is a great guy. They do joke that he'd growl at the voice director while recording stuff for the fallout games as there is so much to do.
