That guy who was Kelly in Bad News Bears but grew up
to become Rorschach and Freddy Krueger.

That guy from Cobra with the lantern jaw was the main
alien Baddie in several seasons of. X-Files.

Hillary Swank falls into the unconventionally-attractive category for me. I think she's actually very attractive, just not in a particularly typical way.

I think Hillary Swank is a beautiful woman.

She has that down home girl next store good look and not the shiny fake hollywood beauty. I think she's beautiful too so we can't all be nuts.

Now one who i find pretty unattractive is the girl who played Ugly Betty, they put all that makeup and stuff on her and she wasn't hot to start with. :lol

Good makeup, lighting, hair, and clothing can make ANYONE look BETTER. But can it make them look objectively "good"? Well, that's a matter of taste. I don't find America Ferrara (the gal from Ugly Betty) all that attractive, myself, but I'm sure there are folks who do.

Every time I see her, I think of Family Guy:

Brian: The FCC are censoring anything that might be viewed as unpleasant.
Peter: What the hell? They let Sarah Jessica Parker's face on TV and she looks like a foot.

What is funny is how much internet discussion there is about her looking like a foot. It even has its own Facebook page.

What about DANNY TREJO (I think thats his name) from MACHETE?
It looks like he dug a tunnel with his face!!!

SJP was cute as a button, once. She was hot when she measured Steve Martin's inseam in LA Story, still looked good in 1993's striking distance, but starting around Sex in the City it started taking more and more Hollywood magic.

Here's the unconventional beauty of Hillary Swank, who is age 37 now:

As sci-fi fans I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Andreas "G'kar" Katsulas, he wasn't much of a looker but boy could the man act.

On the other end of the spectrum you have actors, well mainly actresses, that look great on screen but are really homely off screen/without makeup; Cameron Diaz and Margot Kidder come to mind.

The funnies thing about all these "heavies"? They're all supposed to be absolute sweethearts in real life. Every interview or story I've ever read or heard about any of them has nothing to say but how awesome and friendly they were, how they wouldn't hurt a fly, etc. I always got a kick out of that.

I've noticed the same thing myself, actors who play the most rotten, evil, despicable characters seem to universally be the nicest people you could ever know. Then on the other hand how often do you read or hear about some pretty leading man/woman type actor or actress who have a rep for being real douches in person.

Yeah, but you gotta admit. For an alien, G'kar was a handsome devil.

I've also heard that about character actors as opposed to super big stars, the character actors seem more fan oriented and grateful for people watching their work.
