Let's see if this gains more traction than my Prince of Persia Dagger thread...

Re: UC Dagger Of The Witch King

You really need to weather that blade! It just stands out too much. I think I did mine on the 2nd day as I couldn't stand it any more.

Beautiful stuff, UC. I just posted a long essay on Narsil and Anduril, lol. I have to admit; they're a great company for LOTR swords. They're what MR did for lightsabers, really.

Re: UC Dagger Of The Witch King

Agreed, JM419. And the Witch-king's dagger is in my view their finest LotR replica outside of the Museum Collection line.

Planning on it...

At a bear minimum, I intend to apply a dark wash into the depressions. I am also strongly considering taking sand paper to the blade, as it seems to me that it is painted.

Would be very interested in your techniques and results.

Re: UC Dagger Of The Witch King

I used some rubbing alcohol to remove any oil on the blade and then used some antiquing medium (paint and faux technique glaze) Just painted the entire surface and wiped off the parts I didn't want it on.

Turned out pretty good.

Here is also a picture of the original next to the UC version.

Re: UC Dagger Of The Witch King

Weathered the dagger today... Sorry - no pics yet.

I used a grimy black as the primary color, byut also mixed a ruddy brown for some rust effect. Hit the edges and hilt with sand paper to add some scratching and wearing.

Came out OK. The painted effects on the blade are not quite natural enough for my tastes, but I kept at it and just couldn't give it quite right. So I settled for "good enough" and "better than before".

Re: UC Dagger Of The Witch King

Maybe hit it with some fine steel wool. That is what I was going to suggest before. Still I great piece .

Re: UC Dagger Of The Witch King

I agree. A darker shade in all the pitted areas would really make that blade pop! Cool looking dagger too. I like the down-turned guard. The severely tapered blade just makes it look lethal!

Re: UC Witch King Dagger - Weather, with PICS

That's how it's done!

Lovely!

That's a weighty compliment. From a man who knows!

I'm afraid the added colors used for the weathering do not blend well enough, but a good part of theat is the "pre-destined" pock marks.

The other part is the time (or lack there of) that I spent on it. Did it all in about two hours.
