UC Strider Sword Scabbard Issues

Is it just me, or does EVERY UC Strider Sword scabbard stick at the bottom when you put the sword in????? I don't care how much I spend on the scabbard, every single one that I have purchased does the same thing. This time I have a brand new UC Strider Ranger sword, and I don't want to scratch the blade by trying to loosen up the scabbard. It slides in fine, until the bottom few inches, and then is more difficult. When it is all the way in the scabbard, it fits perfectly. Is this normal???????

I have a UC Anduril, and I really want the scabbard for it. But I don't want it to be an issue too.

I have the same problem with my strider scabbard. The UC Anduril scabbard that I have does not seem to suffer from this problem though. Perhaps it is isolated to teh Strider scabbard?

I a word, yes. That seems to be how all of UC the scabbards are designed, although it's not as troublesome with all of them.

IIRC from the pictures of a split open scabbard that someone posted over at ucforums.com, there is a plastic "holder" near the bottom that the blade needs to "cut" through (I know it's not the best explanation, but if you saw the picture, you would understand).

Speaking of ucforums.com, I haven't been over there in a few months and it now seems to be gone. Do you know what happened?

That actually makes sense. It "feels" like there is something at the bottom of the Strider scabbard that the blade goes into. It's not scratching the blade, but I don't really want to give it a chance. I would love to see a photo of the inside if you can find it.

These things are fairly common, really. They're designed to hold the sword into the scabbard. I have a katana with some cork in the bottom of the scabbard that performs the same function. As long as it's not scratching the blade (which it shouldn't do), then it shouldn't be a problem.

The problem with the strider scabbards is one factory made the sword, another made the scabbard. Back before budk bought out UC we sprayed lubricant (like wd40) on the sword and ran it in and out a few times and they would usually open up a little better.

This was never an issue on anduril as the same factory made the blade and the scabbard, same on glamdring, but I think now Budk UC has all the tooling moved to china so god knows what factory is making these and if they fit like they should.

Taking a much closer look at this problem, it seems that the plastic part that you are referring to at the end/bottom of the scabbard is actually crooked. So the more I put the blade inside the scabbard, one side of the blade eventually rubs against the opening of the scabbard. I think grinding down the opening of the scabbard would possibly solve the problem, but any plating would be removed from that part. I'm not sure what to do? Putting it in and out a million times has not worked.

I will try and take a look at mine tomorrow to see if the blade rubs against the opening.

These are pics made by someone on the LOTRG site.
I don't remember who right off..sorry, but, if you want them taken down LMK.
From what I recall, They said that they just shaved away some of the excess wood inside the top opening and it worked fine after that.

Yeah, that was the problems with the UC Anduril scabbard. The wood was too much towards the center, and the sword is difficult to go in from the very start, unlike the UC Strider sword scabbard which had the problem at the bottom of the scabbard. I had to mail my Anduril scabbard back to Budk because of it.

Whoa, there's a blast from the past! Those are mine. I drew those up AGES ago. Had completely forgotten about them!

Anyway, yeah, I had a bit of trouble with the Anduril scabbard, I got a flat, wide chisel and took a little bit at a time off the wooden insert, that sorted it. Lucky it was jamming near the top. I'm not sure what I'd have done if it was lower down... :wacko

Thanks for doing these pix! and for the loan! :):thumbsup

I finally got a chance to check mine out, and it doesn't shift at all. It goes straight in all the way, the only problem being that it's a really tight fit the last few inches. So at least on mine, the blade does not rub up against anything at the top.

Where HAS to be a way to fix these!

Hmm... got my scabbard last week, the sword two days later. I was soo nervous after reading this thread... then it turned out that the sword fits fine. A good strong fit, no jiggling and no sticking...
