UC Orcrist: "It is here."

Been awaiting this one with great interest. First impression: pretty blade, not as unbalanced as is typical of the UC wallhangers. Feels rather light, almost aluminum-ish. I do not like the handle - looks like plastic
Overall slightly disappointing. Let the pictures tell the tale...

Looks rather nice and on par with the other UC replicas. I knew the handle was going to be made of resin, but looks better than what Noble did with there's. Still can't wait to get mine next week.

Is it just me or does the blade look a bit 'stumpy'?

By my eye it should be a good bit longer, but that could just be how I would prefer it to look given the size of the hilt

That sword looks very disproportional. Blade doesn't match the handle/hilt size. Sad... I wanted to get one of these.

I was thinking the same thing. This one looks like the blade is barely twice the handle length. Most images I see from the film and of other replicas show the blade to be about 2.5 times the handle length...

longer blade

vs.
shorter blade

Yeah, I was basing it on this image:

Where I would say that the blade is even 3 times the length of the hilt. Having said that, the details on the blade and handguard do look very crisp

I saw that as well, but the angle he's holding the blade at may make it look even longer. I did some quick looking at various images and replicas, and I think 2.5 times the handle is about right for the blade.

Still, the OP does have a nice sword now.

Thanks for posting this. Man, I was thinking of getting one but you are right-it looks very off. The UC LOTR swords were much closer to the originals, wood handles and all. Maybe with WETA doing their own replicas, the other licensees are under instruction to make their copies less accurate?

The blade is really too short, it looks more like a knife. UC dropped a ball here and I think that Noble Orcrist is better, at least it's proportional. Thank God I have not ordered the UC one yet. BTW, bmooncd could you please measure the blade and the hilt? Thanks.

Here are a few from the S&F forum. I really think the angle of which the photo was taken is causing an optical illusion and making the blade look shorter.

The blade is still shorter than the Noble one. Hell, it looks way shorter than in the UC leaflet. So they just mislead customers.

Thanks for posting this. Mine is also in transit. However being right on the cost of CT we're under a bit of snow right now.
UC reports their version is 38 3/4" and Noble reports theirs is 39 1/5"
Anyone have info on production used measurements?

Thanks for the review and pics bmooncd!

Well, that is a bit disappointing isn't it... The blade does look way too short.

The dimensions of Weta's Master Swordsmith version has an overall length of 49.2" with the blade being 37"...

That's because its Dwarf size and not human size, same with there version of Sting.

Ah, well that makes sense.
I actually would have preferred it in the larger human scale but c'est la vie...

Anyone planning on getting Noble Collection's version?

EDIT: shouldn't it be in human scale anyway? Afterall, it was an Elven blade...

I have just cancelled the order for my orcrist. Just it isnt correct in blade scale. Way too stumpy.
Also how can they make it dwarf size when it was supposed to be made by the elves for an elf and they are human sized.
From the making of the film i saw they did make a couple of different sized ones but they were larger so would look correct scale when held by a dwarf in the long shots.
They dropped the ball on this one
