Tron Legacy Movie Review

Ya saw it twice and want to see it again in IMAX....the sound (and soundtrack) is just unbelievably good. I hope it does well enough to justify a sequel financially. I think they spent too much on marketing. I only saw the trailers a few days before I first went so I didn't need a big marketing building to get me to go see it.... :cool

Gem is undeniably "perfect" but almost too perfect for me. I prefer Quorra, but then again I've always preferred brunettes over blondes (or whatever color Gem's hair was...white?). :)

I don't think it's been a week and half....I believe it came out last Friday..??
Yeah, it's been out barely a week, and it's hit around $70M in the US. That's not counting the foreign gross.

Just because they're not mega-super-blockbuster numbers doesn't mean the film isn't doing well.. it's already made more than most films make in their entire runs.

I agree 100%. I'm old enough to remember when you went to go see a movie because you heard it was awesome instead of worrying about weekend gross and percentage points and when the DVD was coming out, and whatnot.

When LOGAN'S Run came out, all I heard the Monday at school after opening weekend was about flame guns and boobies and flag-stabbings. Good old days.

Oh I agree... The only problem is that film companies depend on profits.
If a film doesn't take off like a rocket, they'll abandon any possible sequels.

Well they best be making a sequel or they will be receiving a strongly worded letter :rolleyes . I absolutely loved this movie, and I think a sequel would work very well.

As much as I enjoyed this movie, if they don't do another... they shouldn't have made legacy at all. :(

Why?

Because the first one ends in a nice neat lil package of goodness. Tron saved his world, Dillinger gets canned. Flynn escapes AND LIVES. Encom is destined to be great...

Cue to the end of legacy... Is Tron dead? is Flynn dead? What will happen to the grid now? What was up with Dillingers son? How will Quorra adapt to the real world, and why?

See what I'm saying? There was a nice little bow on the Tron world... Legacy pulled the string open. :(

They HAVE to make more.

All I know is the kids are still buzzing about it all over the net. Read through their forums. Google tron legacy discussion. It is making waves. And the kids are wanting the helmets and props like a lot of us did during the OT days.

If they are smart they will make a sequel. What will be GREAT is them not having to have 40 explanations and flashbacks throughout the film. :rolleyes

Interestingly, the appearence of Ed Dillenger jr and the entire boardroom sequence with the release of Encom OS 12 was added to the story with the reshoots in June. A friend who saw a raw cut over a year ago said before the additional footage filmgoers saw Sam on his motorcycle ride up to the Encom Tower and then it cut to him jumping off the Tower.

I really liked the real world sequences as much (if not more than) the scenes in the Grid. I wouldn't mind if the next movie primarily took place in the real world with Ed jr, Sam, Quorra and ......Tron!

Legacy established a look that I suspect they'll continue to use. Hey, come to think of it, with the exception of the last scene with the sunrise, the entire movie was either at night or on the (dark) grid.

.

Really REALLY loved the boardroom scene. Wish they would have shown more... or at LEAST shown a little more about Dillinger.

I just think it was all kinda pointless if it isn't leading to a sequel. :confused

Hey guys,

I read most of the replies here, and I just wanted to add my two cents.

In my opinion, Tron 2.0 is the true sequel to the first movie. They updated the general look of the programs, environments, etc, while retaining the very essence of the first TRON. Programs are energy trapped in an humanoid form, with the face of their User. Environments reflects what they are in reality ( the Web is a messy city, Thorne's PDA a small place with narrow corridors and so on ) and there's a Byte ( "A Bit ? Ha ! Never send a Bit to do a Byte's job ") amongst other things.

It's TRON, but expanded, evolved, bettered.

First thing I thought when watching the first trailer is : Where's the circuitry on them ? Where's the computer feeling ? Why is this looking like The Matrix ( also a " within computer " thing, I'll admit that ) ?

I didn't recognized a TRON universe.

I'll also quote a RPF member here :

" From the very first trailer, I knew without a doubt that this movie was an alternate take on the video game TRON 2.0, a game I LOVED despite it's mediocre presence. It pretty much lifts everything from one of the main characters having a son (instead of Alan it's Flynn), the son getting zapped into the computer world, the son being forced to fight in light cycle races, the son being rescued by the female program DURING the light cycle game, the female program being taken out of the story part way, the son's dad finding a way to bring the female program back ect, ect. There are a lot of numerous story points that I just cried foul on because they all happened in Tron 2.0 and it was done a lot better in that game. It broke my heart that they didn't include the game as canon. "
My feeling exactly.

Another member ( sorry pal, cannot remember your name but you have an orange avatar ) quoted more of connections between Tron 2.0 and Legaçy. I could add more ( Clu's ship full of warriors at the end, the nice program going rogue, etc ).

My point is : While Legaçy is a very entertaining movie, visually really impressive and fun to watch, it sucks at being a sequel. It's like they tried to adapt the game, failed at it or ( worse ) didn't want to recognize they were adaptating it, and ended up with Legaçy. All the rules established in the first movie are forgotten, most of the stuff people was really expecting didn't really happened ( Digitization process, Tron fighting Clu after being fully redeemed ) and added a big WTF at the end ( Flynn's death, Quorra in the sun ).

I really don't know if I want more of this alternate TRON universe. Can't decide.

Gosh. Now I want to play Tron 2.0 for the fith time. :p

Remember, video games are NOT sequels to movies, no matter how hard they try to convince you otherwise. You cannot watch a video game and be entertained. Just ask your girlfriend.

Commercial that just came on said it was the #1 movie in America.

Little Fockers took the lead for a while, don't know if it still had it. But it trounced Yogi Bear last weekend.

The problem is that it isn't #1 enough. The total take of all last weekend's releases was considered soft, so it's the biggest fish in a small pond.

It has to do four or five multiples of the opening weekend to be considered a success by the Disney beancounters and right now it's looking like there'll actually be a big dropoff. I suspect it'll do well on DVD and maaaaaaybe even pick up some critical reconsideration in future - it could be a bit of a mini-Blade Runner. But not well enough for another sequel. :(

Oh Larry, relax, I was raving about the thing in the cinema with my buddy after the lights came up, like more than half the rest of the audience. I'm still raving to anyone who'll listen.

But I'm also following the numbers, avidly, because I want there to be more - and sentiment plays NO part in that process. I don't think we fans are really able to comprehend just how coldly the numbers are crunched in the studio accounting departments.

So I'm worried, because as has been pointed out, despite being a sequel this is also very much a Part #1.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Direct to DVD sequels are a thing from the devil!:cry

Everybody go see it again!!!!

I'm having a hard time recalling the last time something Disney was involved in WASN'T labeled as such at some point in it's run.

Remember, 87.6% of all statistics are made up.

I have my own personal reasons as to why I enjoyed Tron
olivia-wilde2.jpg

I enjoyed the storyline ,the FX , and the characters,
olivia-wilde-thirteen-photos-hudley-doctor-02.jpg

and Im not someone who hops on board a film bandwagon just because of superficial film elements.

I take into account the important aspects of a good story

Not just eye candy and movie fodder

And that's all I have to say about that.

Hey, I got an idea for a title for the next film. How about "Tron: Corruption", especially since it's rumored that Dillenger, Jr. (played bu Cillian Murphy) is going to be the bad guy? He may cause a "corruption" to the Grid.
