Tron Legacy Movie Review

now you're just being pedantically picky without contributing to the discussion. for the uninitiated in the audience. Rinzler has 4 dots on his chest because they see him the most. Tron is seen in a flashback for what? 4-5 seconds and even then he's moving a lot so most wouldn't pick up on it.

I already KNEW rinzler was tron. I know the 4 dots are a nod to the classic tron costume from the first movie. sheesh, move along.

Tron has the four dots on his chest in the First movie. Big time.

The first time I spotted them and no one else had them I knew it was Tron.

I think it was just subtle enough that only those that remember the four dots would get it right off.

well referring to my earlier post. flynn stated ISO's had DNA of sorts, and you see Quorra's on her disc when he's repairing her arm.

so it implies she has a DNA structure a computer could use to construct her in the real world. the only caveat being it has to use matter already stored in the laser to reconstruct it when it uploads to get out.

Well, atoms are everywhere, so it wouldn't be too far out to reveal that the laser was adjusted to perfomr such a task during those 10 years between Tron and Tron legacy.

Since Kevin FLynn went into the grid, but never came out, wouldn't that suggest that his matter is still stored in the laser?

Also, regarding whether Tron is alive or dead - People have already mentioned that we see his lights turn from red to blue as he is sinking in the water.
In the first film wasn't water in the grid a source of energy?
Couldn't this be used to justify Tron being revived?

Id have to say there is definitely a setup factor here for another film.
Cillian Murphy played Dillingers kid for a few seconds in the movie...I found it odd that a pretty big name actor had such a small part...This also seems to suggest a setup for a sequel.

Why would you ever hire the son of a guy who lied and stole his way to the top?

The sequel needs Dillinger, Sark and his son, against Flynn, Sam and Tron.

No contradictions at all. Flynn said he didn't page Sam, it was Clu all the time. Clu paged Alan trying to get "anyone" to open the porthole again. That way he can do 2 things, hopefully draw out Flynn from hiding AND leave the Grid into the real world.

But wasn't it established that Clu needed Sam in order to draw out Flynn? If that was the case, why was Clu trying to KILL SAM IN A LIGHT CYCLE MATCH before either of them knew where Flynn was?! Sure, the portal may be open, but Clu still didn't have Kevin's disc he needed in order to get out.

I think it should be called more like Tron: Reboot to kinda fit the theme with Hollywood's relentless act of redoing films, hahah!

Jeff Bridges looks like he genuinely had a good time making that film. I mean his acting was solid, but you know, it's cool there's still great actors out there willing to do another chapter of something that old out there. You'd think with his level of accolades in film that some of those egos would feel they are too above and good for those roles anymore, but I think it was super cool they got him back, not to mention the addition of Mr. Boxleitner.

agreed, I used to diss jeff bridges as phoning in a lot of his performances and there's not much he's done in recent years I particularly cared for but I thought he was excellent in this.

as to ego, he's always struck as a fairly laid back guy in real life, you certainly don't hear any diva-esque stories about him and in interviews he comes across as a very level headed person.

on a professional level, I think if someone had offered me the chance to revisit a character from the beginning of my film career, I'd have bitten their hand off as well.

that's the point I make earlier. its matter stored that the laser uses to reconstitute a person in the real world. the only problem for kevin flynn is that quorra's already used his matter to come out of the grid so he can't now do that.

at least, that's my view.

oooooh good point. I'd forgot about the water being energy in the first movie. plus, as he's under water, maybe the explosion misses him entirely.

so now that sam has backed it all up onto a disk, that suggests if he ever brings the grid back on, then tron will be there, waiting.

I don't find the cillian murphy thing odd. sure he's a big name actor now, but couldn't it just be he wanted in on the tron film and was willing to take whatever was offered, similar to how christian slater had a cameo part on Star trek VI cos his mom was on the production team and he wanted any part on offer so h e could be in a star trek movie.

of course, making cillian dillingers son gives us a huge boon if there is a sequel.

I don't think it would be too much of a hurdle to explain it away in the next film.
The laser might have been upgraded during those 10 years between Tron and Tron Legacy. It may have the ability to reorganize atoms from the real world, not just stored atoms.

Now, here's the question: What can they possible do for a sequel?

I mean, the only story they could have possibly told for the film has already been told, which was an indecisive son trying to find his father, only to end up embracing his own future. The film's ending, like the original, leaves open hope for the future of both mankind and programkind alike.

I guess they could go with what was done with "Tron 2.0" game, which is have some sort of competitor to Encom, with the help of Dillenger Jr., attempt to take it over Encom from inside the servers, and it's up to Sam, Quorra, Tron, and the Bradley's (which includes Alan, Lora and Jet {seriously, why NOT include Jet from the game as a character in the film? I can honestly see Sam and Jet be as-close-as-brothers-kind of friends, so why not go that extra step?}) to stop them. But then again, film viewers would probably find that boring.

6 years. "Tron" occurs in 1982. "Tron Legacy" begins in 1989. And since "Tron: Betrayal" comic starts one year after the first film and features the laser with the design we see in the film, it's possible that he upgraded more over the 6 year period between the events in the comic and the point in which he disappears.

My bad, 6 years.

I liked it. It's on the verge of 'buy the DVD' quality.

The cgi on young flynn was amazing at times.

I also spotted Tron in disguise. I guess his plunge into the water allowed him to 'reboot' into his original code. Poor guy. 2 movies named after him and he barely appears.

I also liked Trinity...I mean Cora, ...that is Quorra.

As crazy as it sounds, when it comes to the Score by Daft Punk, they did a pretty excellent job. For some reason, it reminds me of a cross between Hans Zimmer's work and Philip Glass's score for "Koyaanisqatsi."

My guess is that Dillinger Jr will attempt to use the Grid for his own ends, and Flynn and Company will have to stop him. Sam finds Flynn is still alive (somehow), Tron comes back to save the day, etc.

End of franchise. They should end it before it ends up stupified by endless and worthless sequels.

So has anyone played the Tron: Legacy video game? How does that tie the original Tron and Tron: Legacy together. I only played the online games over the two months they were released and evolved.

I have heard that Tron: Uprising which will be an animated series playing on Disney XD will start premiering I believe in June 2011. This will form the connection between Tron: Legacy and the third movie with a little bit of backstory of what happened between Tron and Tron: Legacy. I am looking forward to this. Bruce Boxwhatchmacallit is returning for the voice of Tron in the series.

Perhaps Tron comes out of the The Grid and into the real world after Dillinger JR goes into the Grid?

I haven't played the T:L game, "Tron: Evolution," myself. But I have played the "Tron 2.0" game that was released in 2003. Definitely enjoyed that one, though the film director stated that it is not canon to his film.

i got the game well before the film came out and debated playing (i didn't want to spoil myself too much) so i just installed it... and in the install, i heard new music... DOH spoiled...

It's supposed to be a bridge between the old film and the new right? where's the harm in that... i start the game...

and then...

at this point, i realize that this isn't a bridge at all, this game is set in the Legacy universe....

game3.jpg

so, having been this spoiled, i just played through the entire game...

and it does fill in gaps and the ending of the game meshes perfectly with the film...

we see why castor is bad in the film... also, when quorra is on the solar sailer and talks about how she met flynn, she's basically describing the ending of the single player game... where the 'sympathetic' program that helps her escape, is YOU if you played the game...

being the dork that i am, having finished the game before the film, i actually wanted to stand up in the theater after she said 'sympathetic program' and yell, 'That was me'

As a back story element, its good, but the controls are pretty twitchy. I got pretty annoyed by that, but the story kept me going. The game takes place in 1989 and details the events leading to CLU's taking over.

Lol, that's awesome :lol:thumbsup

I'm gonna have to pick up the game.

I know that feeling. When I found out that CLU was the one who sent the page to Alan, and it was members of the FlynnLives ARG who opened the door for the page to get through (including myself), I wanted to stand up and say, "Sorry! My bad!" J/k :lol
