Tron Legacy Movie Review

game3.jpg

I see that the game's graphics are 'bout the same as what we saw in the flick.

Heh.

On a side note, maybe it's just me, but couldn't take my eyes off of Quorra everytime she appeared on screen.
Ive seen Olivia Wilde on several episodes of House, but she never looked this good.

Oh GOD, I know. Her eyes are so beautiful. I also think the hair framed her face perfectly (she has a kind of flat/no cheekbone face that's really noticeable on House, hid the haircut kind of hid that and emphasized her eyes :love:love:love:love).

I felt the film was great. Yeah, it was a bit shallow storywise, but it was a visual orgy of awesomeness. I didn't go into the theater expecting an Oscar-worthy screenplay and acting, but I thought Legacy was definitely better crafted than 95% of the throwaway sci-fi/action movies that we get these days.

And man, the Daft Punk score was pitch perfect in every scene. (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Man... I just can't say how much I love this movie. It's flawed, sure, but the positives outweigh the negative.

Cameo's: I enjoyed the Daft Punk stuff, but I've been a fan of theirs for 13 years, so there's some bais. I kept expecting Edward Jr. (Murphy) to pop up in The Grid or discover it somehow. All saved for a sequel, I guess.

Story: Weak points, sure, but I liked it overall and never expected an Oscar contender. The holes didn't bother me, since two of the writers from Lost helped write the script. lol (And I love Lost)

Effects: I'll agree that the 3D (no IMAX for me yet) isn't as lush as Avatar because of the setting of The Grid. I still noticed a lot of it and LOVE the "Wizard of Oz-esque" use of it.

I first saw it on the midnight showing and it wasn't packed, but pretty full. I didn't notice anyone walk out, but there were quite a few discussing it after it was over. Then I saw it again last night and will more than likely be going again with a friend who has yet to see it. The last time I saw a movie in theaters this much was Jurassic Park, so let that say something! lol

Oh, and like many of you, I also think that this is the best Olivia Wilde has looked!

As a back story element, its good, but the controls are pretty twitchy. I got pretty annoyed by that, but the story kept me going. The game takes place in 1989 and details the events leading to CLU's taking over.

I have the game for the wii and could not get into it at all... played a little of the story and some of the online stuff.

Movie was just as good the second time seeing it

found this and found it interesting in my search for jem photos and stuff

Gem transformed into a sentry
"She gets blown up in the end of line club with Castor but towards the end when Clu was giving his invasion speech there was a close up of a Sentry that was definitely female, pale and pink lip gloss. It looked like Gem. Did anyone notice this?"

"I...didn't think that was female. I was a bit perplexed by that though. I was like, "why are we zooming in on random sentry? Are we supposed to recognize him? Those lips look familiar..."

I will need to take a closer look at this scene..lol

Hmmm.. interesting. I always thought that shot was to show Clu's reflection off of the visor. Thanks, I'll have to check that out.

I think Disney may have shot themselves in the foot with one of their marketing strategies.

I saw Tron: Legacy with a friend of mine last Friday, but my wife didn't show interest in seeing the film until after I saw it.
She saw the original film when she was little, but barely remembers it. She said she wanted to see the new film but only after seeing the original Tron.

So I've been checking everywhere to get a copy of Tron on DVD....Apparently it's out of print and the only copies to be found are online, and they usually go for about $100!!
Netflix never has it in stock and it's supposedly also scarce at Blockbuster.

So while doing these DVD searches I stumbled across a news story regarding the BluRay release of Tron.
Apparently Disney was planning on releasing a new , remastered special edition of Tron on BR to coincide with the release of the new film.
After the film was remastered they test screened it to a group of people....During the screening there was supposedly laughter from people who thought the FX were silly.

As a result, Disney was terrified that it would effect the new film's performance so they decided to appease the morons from the test audience (who apparently can't get past the vintage FX) and opted to release Tron on BR sometime in 2011 .

Now, if anyone has been looking at the box office numbers for the new tron film, they'll notice that it hasn't been doing too well. Supposedly it will be lucky to break even (Which may mean no sequel)

I think Disney was stupid in holding off on the BR release of the old film. l

As a result of this embargo we have a bunch of new generation viewers who probably have no clue what Tron is about, and have virtually no access to the original film. How does Disney expect to get viewers in seats, when the main movie going demographic is prevented from seeing the foundation film for this sequel?

The main core audience are probably people in their late 30's who have already seen the original Tron (which makes up a small portion of the average movie going demographic). I believe the main movie goers are ages 17-25.

I dunno, I think this was a stupid move on Disney's part, and probably a big reason for the low box office numbers...Any thoughts?

i think the entire film is on YouTube, so Im sure people can get access to it, but yeah, dumb Disney.

Yeah, I watched it on youtube before seeing Legacy. I'm glad I did, because I would have been a little confused if I didn't refresh my memory (havent watched the film in maybe 20 years).

Just look up Tron 1982. :thumbsup

Yea as a few other said, I found the original TRON on youtube several months ago.

As for the release, I think that it's kinda of sad that they'd be "scared" just because of a small group of people. Yea, I can say that alot of kids now will look at the original TRON with some humor, but there are still more mature people that actually respect older film FX.

Then again, you have people now that think TRON Legacy is a "re-make," and never even heard of TRON before it. So yea, I have to agree that if the sole reason for not re-reasing the original film is just to "save themselves from getting laughed at by a bunch of bratty punk kids," then their screwing themselves over.

You just can't get into a movie sequal and epect the audience to just "breeze through" it, not knowing what the heck is going on in the story line. Good thing I've seen the original, cause while seeing Legacy, you had to have seen the original, or else you'd just think clu and Tron were just some half-assed characters made up for the sake of the plot

I was wondering that as well. Why does this extra deserve a close-up?

There is a thread about why Disney didn't release Tron first. But I now think that they are hoping to get bigger sales this way. Build up interest, then release the Tron 'prequel'.

I'm tempted to start a "Jet Lives" movement, to see if the writers will include Jethro "Jet" Bradley from the "Tron 2.0" game as a character in the next film. I mean, we know that Lora and Alan got married in the "Tron: Legacy" version of the story. You mean that after all those years, they didn't have a kid? Flynn had a son a year after the events in the first film and he didn't even have a girlfriend he mentioned in the first film. Why not give Sam a friend his same age, someone who can practically be a brother? It'd make sense that Jet would be working for Encom like his folks, thus be able to help out Sam in his annual prank on the company (and probably even helped out in the one Sam pulled off in the start of the film). Plus, having him involved with the next one would be a great tie-in for the next film for connecting the first film, having a Flynn and a Bradley against a Dillenger.

Of course, this is wishful thinking.

I'll be interested where they go with Sam, Quorra, Ed Dillinger jr. and any other characters in the next movie.

Saw it, loved it, amazing movie.

I thought all the Clu stuff was very well done considering what they were doing. I bought old Jeff Bridges and young Jeff Bridges completely. An amazing feat.

Only complaint was Tron not having his helmet open right at the end when he swooped in on Clu.

And Gem. OMG Gem. Wow. Quorra was beautiful but Gem was just stunning.

Daft Punk, Lightcycles, Tron, Flynn..... Loved every frame. Can't wait to get the DVD.

Confusion, at this rate there won't be any "next movie". It's not doing well enough. Only repeat business will save it and it isn't happening so far. I'm gonna see it again myself, but I'm not domestic US BO. Get out and see it again, you lot!

Call it overkill, but I've seen it 3 times and will probably make a fourth on New Years Day when some friends and I make a trip to see it in IMAX down in St. Louis.

As an aside, there's going to be a CG animated show on Disney XD called Tron: Uprising.

In a week and a half it made 70 Million with a budget of 300 Million. DVD/Blu-ray should be big.

It should have a sequel. They'll adjust the budget accordingly.

I've seen it 3 times and I plan on seeing it at least one more time.

For Tron: Uprising, the vehicle designer from Tron Legacy is contributing designs for the light cycles!

I don't think it's been a week and half....I believe it came out last Friday..??
