Tron Legacy: Flynn Lives

The most interesting tid bit is time is different in the world of Tron....while 20 years have elapsed in the "real" world, it's been 1,000 years in the Tron world.

Flynns son: "its been a long time"

Flynn: "you have NO idea."

I gathered it was something like that... man this movie has some major potential... so did TPM... But I've still got a pretty good feeling about this! :)

BTW, be WARNED of spoilers in the above commentary MTV link!

I couldnt stop reading and now I know alot about the plot...

but meesa is berry BERRY excited now! LOL!

I also like Kosinski's comment about how Clu is Kevin Flynn's "son" in the digital world. In the LA trailer preview/Q&A two weeks ago, it was also mentioned that since Clu is a version of Kevin Flynn, he thinks like Kevin.

i can't believe this is a digital character!

I knew it was Flynn when I saw that, but I asked myself, "Who did they get to play Bridges, it looks just like him"

Is that a digital actor, or did they do the whole "antiage" thing, and then just blend it onto the body of another actor? Or is there someone out there who resembles him that much?

i've heard olivia wilde say in an interview it was a 'Benjamin Button' type of thing... and then here Tron Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski says," "Young Jeff Bridges. You got to give people a taste. My reference for Clu is the era Jeff did 'Against All Odds.' Hardest thing to do in visual effects is pull off a realistic human face. Clu's the biggest challenge in our movie. He's a major character."

so.. i'm taking that as... the above pic is 'animated'? if that is tru then holy schmoly..!!

Of course, computer cycles can go a lot faster than the things we do. Honestly, a 1:50 ratio is probably really low.

It was a different actor and they replaced his face with the CG younger "Against All Odds" era Jeff Bridges face in post production. Tron was released in 1982 and Against All Odds was released in 1984.

I'm going to draw a parallel to the Star Wars prequals and how they did the light sabers. I thought the primative way they created the saber effects gave them an off-world quality. A randomness that gave them that 'spark' of life. The prequals made them so clean and sanitized that they came off as boring and uninspired.

The thing about Tron is the technology at the time contributed to the look even though it was clunky. This new Tron world looks like real life with people wearing EL suits. Yes, I know that computers can create virtual worlds in great detail, but it kills the excitement of venturing into a 'new world'.

Ouch! I really hope it's not like the Star Wars prequels. :eek

It's interesting that you would call the saber effect in the original movies primitive. When the movies were released, those effects were cutting edge! The same would apply to Tron, which was released in 1982. The technology (a combination of traditional animation and computer graphics) was cutting edge, there was nothing clunky about it. They were pushing the limit and doing things with computers precious few had done. Looking back at it now, wearing the lenses of today, sure, it looks old, but you gotta remember, when the movies were released it wasn't!

I see (hopefully not with rose colored lenses) Tron Legacy carrying on that same leading edge imagery and technology to bring the audience a world few sane men have imagined or visited.

I'm looking forward to seeing it. It makes me want to rent or buy the original and watch it again. It's been a while since I've seen it. I know it's old, but it's still fun to watch.

I meant compared to today's special effects technology. :)

If they are using CG and existing footage to create a young Jeff Bridges character in Clu, then I would not be surprised to see Tron himself, and possibly a Re-Res RAM. What a kick that would be, espesially if it was kept a secret until the movie opens.

The director, Joseph Kosinski, confirmed that Tron will be in "Tron Legacy" at a trailer screening event q&a.

Bruce Boxleitner and Peter Jurasik (Crom) were at Dragon*Con last year, so I asked them about the new Tron. Boxleitner recalled the similarities of filming in a 'virtual' space, using your imagination to inform your surroundings, like the original film. Jurasik said he wasn't approached to reprise as Crom for the new film, and voiced appreciation that the fans would like to see those sort of cameos.

Yup! Check out post #4 in this thread for some more info. Since the new digital world is a closed system, I wonder how Tron ends up there.
