Tron Legacy: Flynn Lives

Frankly, that bugs me. That's more of what's wrong with hollywood today than anything else. God forbid you just make a good movie, but we gotta get toys out for it, gotta get that breakfast serial, turn it into a tv show, and don't forget the obligatory video game, etc, etc, etc. Why not try and make a good movie and then if it's good - go from there.

Was POTC a planned mini-industrial revolution thing? I thought it was just a movie they made that exploded, then they went from there.

I totally understand, but it isn't really a new phenomenon. If we take the wayback machine to 1937, the release of Snow White saw one of the biggest merchandising efforts, with product on retailers shelves when the movie was released.

On a Tron related note, can anyone confirm this is a true sample of music for Tron Legacy by Daft Punk:

I saw it last Saturday and it was AWESOME! However, it lasted maybe 3 minutes, but was packed with images of the key characters. CLU looks cool (the 25 year younger looking Jeff Bridges). Lightcycles, discs and recognizers abound. Olivia Wilde didn't look bad either!

For those waiting for the online release of the trailer (it's playing theatrically in front of most 3D/IMAX showings of Alice in Wonderland starting today), it sounds like it will be released next weekend according to an article on the MTV blog....drats:

now i understand why the 'select' preview audience was so upset, boy, had it been me standing in the rain for 2 hrs.. and deciphering the code to see this trailer last week, i'd be pretty pissed too.

what was it, like 15 secs of tron world footage? the the video game trailer shows a ton more spoiler type tron world art then this...

I thought the video game Tron: Evolution was a prequel to Legacy?

Just rented Surrogates, and there was a trailer for TRON: Legacy on it. It was the version with the lightcycle chase with Flynn watching from above.

I highly recommend seeing the trailer in 3D on the big screen. Couple the custom music by Daft Punk created just for the trailer and the amazing imagery and it's a recipie for an awesome look into the world of Tron!

That's the "proof of concept" trailer that was originally shown at the 2008 comic con, then cleaned up and shown at the 2009 comic con and as the first online trailer. The designs have been tweeked since. The actual scenes in that trailer don't happen in the movie, but man, that sequence was awesome, especially when the helmet lit up at the end and revealed it was Clu. I really, really want one of those identity discs!!
