Tron Disc, I just made my "Stunt Foam Disc" NEW PICS...

Re: Tron Disc (Frisbee)

I've been trying but have been unable to get in touch with sd1138, has anyone spoken to him recently? I really want to get this disc finished so I can start on my next one :)

Nice disk pics!!

The first two are indeed my disk. If anyone wants more info, just PM me.

Re: Tron Disc (Frisbee)

I gonna try floral paint. I just have to find one that doesn't eat the foam and won't crack if flexed.

Try putting down some kind of brush on base primer (not a spray) Possibly a latex paint (although I dont know how well the Spray paint will adhere to the latex). Then when you do spray the primer should protect the foam from being eaten. I did this for a Sign I made out of construction insulation foam and it worked like a charm. the Idea is to just protect to foam from the harsh Solvents in the spray.

Hey!

Sorry for the late responce. I have been a little busy lately.

It is not brushed. There are absolutely no brush marks anywhere on the disk. It looks sprayed because of the evenness of the paint. It could have been dipped, but if it was it was a great job becuase there are no run marks anywhere (which is why I am confident in saying that it was sprayed).

As for pics, it would just be white! haha. The pics that are out there now are exactly how it looks. Again, no brush strokes anywhere on my disk.

I guess the only thing I can add is that the paint is thick. The disk is still rigid and not flexible in the least. Also, whatever the paint is, it is highly adhesive becuase where the paint has cracked, it is still tighly attached to the foam (though this could be due to the porus nature of the disk itself).

Hope this helps!

Yes that helps. Thanks for posting!

Could be a urethane that was sprayed or something like plastic dip..but I would test both on similar foam first.

Paints I know Disney use are
Golden Golden Artist Colors, Inc.
Liquitex http://www.liquitex.com/?gclid=CPnMiamWqqkCFRx3gwod-X25Lw
Mann Bros Specialty Paints & Supplies. Mannbrothers Online Store.
Rosco Rosco US : Products

and stuff that is no longer made which they bought up and store it for use.

because of the nature of the foam to be like a sponge it might just be latex paint.. I would do test to see what happens on similar foam

With the disc being rigid and not flexible in the least, plus the huge cracks on it, could it not be non-flexible paint?

urethane coating?
Magic white roofing goo?

but do you want yours to crack too? I would not.
They could of used a base coat of something to make it rigid and also to help with the white. Scenic glue comes to mind.

So I'm assuming the original paint doesn't look porous like the foam underneath then if it is a thick coat.

I've had one of the attendants at Halfords tell me that their enamel spray paint is flexible and that it will work on rubber too.

I didn't know enamel paint is flexible. Is it? :confused

I've already got another one on hand ;)

I tried the Halfords automotive enamel spray paint on a pair of rubber goggles and it seems to have taken very well. Didn't even need a primer. It's pretty permenant and I wasn't able to even scratch it off once dry, and it seems perfectly flexible.

I will have some more discs in a few weeks if you need to get another one

most automotive paints are not real enamel..it mostly likely an polyester type paint, which is flexible but be-careful of solvents that could eat the foam. Does it say how to clean up spills or splatters, that will give you a hint as to what base solvents are used in the paint.

The Halfords 'enamel' spray paint actually turned out very well.

Final question... what kind of glue do you think that is? 2 part epoxy?

My first attempt at one of these stunt discs is done. Just need to know what kind of glue that is under the velcro strips. :confused
