Unlimited Run TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run! NOW SHIPPING

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

How much longer do you and the machinist think this will take?

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

He's still making the extra sabers. He should be done in a few days. Then he plans on starting some of the Delrin parts.

Amp, I can't say. He says a month or two, but that's what he told me when the run started. :rolleyes I've really been putting the pressure on him to get this finished. The amount of time this has taken is obscene, and I'll definitely be shopping around for another machinist for the next saber (probably Kit Fisto). I'll put it up for vote later. It'll either be cheap and a long wait, or pricey and an 8 week turnaround.

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

He's all caught up with the extra sabers, and he started finishing up the details on the shroud. I wasn't able to get down to the shop for pics, and he's now taking his grandkids to the beach for a week, but as soon as he gets back, he'll have the knurling in the brass knobs done, and the shrouds for me to get shots of. All the Delrin stock is in, and he's going to be starting those pieces next.

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

Machinist is back from the beach. Work continues. I'll be getting down there for photos sometime today or tomorrow.

In the mean time, I've been re-engineering the control box interior so that it all fits and locks together better. He'll be starting these after the knob knurling is finished I believe.

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

Here's a small update, as the machinist's computer has finally died:

Luckily he doesn't need it for the brass screws, and that's what he's working on right this moment, now that he's worked the kinks out. The knurling is proving o be a problem, as every 5th or so knob is ruined do to defective knurling. Unless you have a specialized gear driven, thousand dollar knurling set attached to a top of the line machine, there is no way to make the knurls exactly the same ever time. Imperfections in the brass stock, the amount of oil on the tool, etc., can all change the depth and spacing of the knurls slightly. He's finally programmed it to come in a certain way that only gives us a 25% failure rate. Those failed ones are still nice looking, its just that the width between knurls aren't screen accurate. If anyone needs brass knobs for custom builds, give me a yell, and we can work something out with the throw aways.

Here's the raw stock in the machine:

And some of the various cuts it goes through:

And a finished one fresh out of the chuck:

Here's a video if anyone want's to watch the process. t's a combination of machine work and hand work:

Some finished ones that I've signed off on:

Ones that I deemed not fit for this run:

To show how complex programming these things can be, here is the machines instructions for the threading ONLY. It tells it how fast to come down, how much pressure to apply, how long to leave it on the stock before moving it, how far to move it, how quickly to pull away, which direction to move, how far to move down to a thousands of an inch, etc.:

Here's the basic shape of the knob all programmed in:

And realtime animation of the tool cutting the stock:

Also, the Delrin stock has finally all arrived. It was arriving in small doses over a period of time for some reason, but it's finally all here now. Here is the stock that will make up the "bulb release" and the grips:

These will make the clamp rings:

And these will be the covertec knobs:

By Wednesday, he'll be doing the final shaping and drilling on the shrouds, assuming his new computer is up and running, so I will try to drive back down then and get more shots of their progress.

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

I wish I had your shop... Billet... I so miss machining...

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

I have been following this thread in the FX fourms also, and man is it looking great! On the bottom black delrin box under the silver one is one
hard part of that area of the saber. I have a great 1:1 scale Ani Aotc that was made by a sabersmith in the rebelscum forums. Very accurate. He made the top black delrin part with the clear bubbles rectangular, then the chrome piece the same, but for the bottom instead of making it one piece he cut three thin rectangular delrin slices the top two were flat and the bottom one easily curved around the black delrin part that surrounds the middle of the saber in which it attach's to. Pm me here or over at the FX forums and ill get you some High Resolution Pics of the Saber and of that area. Im MasterRoyce over there.
Great job! I am also on the back up list, so I sure hope I luck out!

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

You've been working on this for so long and the fruits of your labor really show! The way you've been pouring your heart (and your money) into this project is a great example of what the RPF stands for.
I look forward to seeing your finished product.

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

The good thing about the longer wait time is that you have more time to collect the money. The bad thing is the anticipation, even tho i don't even know yet if i'm even getting this saber. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for the next run after this one is over so i can be guaranteed a saber. Speaking of which, any ideas of what saber will be next?

I second that!

Thank you, but ugh, please don't remind me about the money. I just hope I can break even on this one. The last run put me $1600 in the hole. :cry

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

Seelsa73 I believe there is earlier post By TridCloudwalker that maybe it would be a kit fisto. I think he said he would post a thread later on a vote.

Also pm replied to TridCloudwalker...

And in a previous post you had said you would have extra knobs for other custom Ani's, so I would like to get one of each of them. I have Oz's custom, and I think you have one so could you check and see if they will fit. Sure with a little elbow grease they will work. Any extra shrouds? Think one could fit the OZ version?
One last question, any updates on how many extras were made, and if the few who were not responding to pm's about deposits? Take your time on getting back to me as I understand about the time it takes on these builds. Never done a machined run, but have done a few runs on some full painted resins, and it took quite a while just on those.

Just thought I would throw this out, the longer the build, 99% of the time the better the results! Sure most of us know that, but there is the occasional (how much longer?)

$1600 in the hole and you still did another run? Bless you, sir.

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

It's the only way to get 100% screen accurate saber that I can also upgrade with electronics. I didn't mind putting so much of my own money into it; I just hope to not put in so much this time. I'm poor as hell. Most of the money spent last time was to correct a mistake that happened to the saber necks.

Jediezekiel, there won't be any extra shrouds, and the extra knobs I have aren't 100% screen accurate. The knurling is either too tight or too wide. And I have no idea if they'll fit Oz's. It all depends on what threading he has on his. I've never seen an Oz Anakin saber.

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

Sorry updates have been so slow. The machinist had to finish some jobs that paid him right now, as opposed to later, and then he ended up having to do a complete coolant flush and refill, which took a few days. Supposedly, this project is going into overdrive now, and he'll be working on it exclusively.

At any rate, here's what is currently finished. The threaded knob holes have been drilled, and the notch in the back for the "bulb release." All that's left to do on these is to cut out the angle on the bottom back. Disregard the little mistake on the back, that's been fixed. Here are the pics:

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

Wow, I'm kicking myself for missing this one.

I can't wait to see the finished product.

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

If you have any left over after these are completely done and ready to ship out PM me.
