Just an observation and maybe a bitch and rant....but if anyone can ...it's me

is anyone else getting tired of seeing the same ol P1 and P2's ....and then it's oh wait ANOTHER P1 and another p2 or AVP....WTF?

Whatever happened to the true custom builds, don't get me wrong there are a few. but there was a time when it's all what it was totally different and unique preds...

Someone mentioned to me yeah Andrew...you didn't "build" your own suit. My elder base pieces were fabricated by the best at the time in the field, it was my vision for a younger elder because I didn't want to repeat what was already done...Why be a clone or try to be...so I customized it and sculpted my own pieces for it.

I created this place because of the bullSh*t I was getting on the old RPF.."it's not Screen accurate" prop dorks were giving me.

I dunno just as not as much variation anymore....LAME

Step it up people...

They tried that in a movie called "Predators". ;)
I've been doing paint variations on skins, armor, masks etc, but cant post public yet. The original has no equal IMO

I hear ya..it's just starting to look like cookie cutter out there.. you supply the base. The creative should be on the user end
sign of the times I guess... I just remember the words of main man Stan Winston that gave me the push to create this place

"They come from a race of hunters"

yuuup we need custom suits on here.... am going that direction :) want to do more of a scottish themed / wallace/ Braveheart style suit
sounds crazy but more period scottish armor on it...

Alex

The original set the bar, but concerning "PREDATORS"? That was a reboot disguised as a remake disguised as a stand alone film/sequel. The only decent thing from that movie are the suits.

As for custom suits. There's a multitude of reasons ranging from not being able to afford a couple thousand dollar suit to not having the time to sculpt it/paint it.

People see the movie suits and instantly want them, This is an expensive hobby so thinking outside of the box is a costly process if it works out.
I got 3 movie suits, now moving onto my own version

I never thought it was about the money...(if it was I would have cashed in long ago) it was about variation and design concept.
The greatest or one of the greatest features about the Predator was the total customizing of the bio. the P1 P2 paint schemes are classics we all know this.

for me the bio told the story of type of predator it was. I don't think it's about just slapping some crap on it and saying it's this..... but the overall aesthetic if you will.

That build is Amazing!!...
Just the fact that you thought of variation of an existing hunter

Cheers fella, it's been along journey but I'll get there!!! Fingers crossed before the new Pred film comes out and we have a uplift on young bloods. Lol

I am sure some of it comes down to the community itself. There was a time the community supported customs quite a bit, but that eventually shifted to the "look at me" style of Facebook which doesn't create a community sense. When you have a community, people want to be a part of it, but they want to be their own thing, thus the customs. When you have a bunch of disparate individuals, people revert to simply wanting something that comes from what they love, which is of course why you are seeing more of the classics. People come here and learn what they need to learn to build the Predators they know. They never get a sense of attachment that would make them want to do their own custom, so you see very few of them.

the sense of community thing really isn't on FB however you do get exposure to a much greater talent base and the technology of fabrication at one time was kinda a "i'm not telling you my secret" mentality. Everyone knows how to if not can figure out pretty quick how to build one of these suits, for those that a brave enough to wear one...lol
to me it's like seeing 10 Vaders ..... after vader 6 your kinda like ehhh....

There was a time of idea development and individuality. just always wantingt the envelope would be pushed

I am going in a different direction from the movie preds. The Bad Blood Predator from the comic books.

There are so many variants from the comic books, but yes, I can see the reason why people go for screen accurate. There are more files out there and better reference pictures for sculpting, variants require a lot more work. Since a lot of people find this place are doing their first costume. It is simply easier to do a screen one.

There have been some amazing work and suits made here. I would rather see 1000 identical Predators with photos in "unique" settings, than one incredible custom suit with a photo taken at a convention. That just kills it.

I know some people just want to wear or own a Predator suit. They want something screen accurate and can purchase a lot of items to assembled one. I have read posts where people just want to buy a completed suit. These are TOTAL predator fans.

Then there are those who want to do a build. The excitement is in the journey and not necesserly the destination. They are creating something. My build fits into the second category. I used screen images and pics of screen preds as reference but changed things to fit my taste. I love making things and I really like Predator.

I will apologize in advance - I have been building my suit ever since last years Megacon and after a year of building, will debut it there and post pics.

This site is great because both groups of these people roam here and its easy to follow the ones you like.

Gonna give a big hell yeah to your statement gene.
people always ask me to go to cons. While I've done a few but for me that environment just kills the effectiveness of the costume, all costumes for that matter.

I love the classics...I love the customs more

I have a couple custom suits under my sleeve that i created in the past few years, but even that I love seeing a nice movie accurate suit, a custom suit makes the character look even better. Is a whole race of predators out there and making a suit unique for a client or myself if ******* awesome, because it pushes me as an artist to come up with ideas, designs, colors etc.
And that's why I decided to make my last build "The Rogue" a full custom suit lol, a headpiece is just not enough, to my eyes there is a whole new character that I can create and also have fun while building it.
