Total Recall Nose-Bug Extractor Device

Anyone have any really good images of the device Arnie uses to extract the tracker from his nose?

According to old threads here on the RPF, the extractor device was either made by John Ramsey from Propart (according to ricksprops) or by Ed Kline from Kline FX (according to LeMarchand and the Kline FX website). Maybe the two worked together?

The Kline FX website says that the device was a general thingime-jig that Ed sold to the prop house Modern Props, who rented it to the Total Recall production team. I have contacted Modern Props however and they have told me that they do not have it. Perhaps it was sold on?

So..... Anyone have any good reference pics or know if this was totally scratch-built or if any parts were found items - the actual grabber at the tip is a common item, but what about the rest?

NB: On a side note, I was looking through Modern Props inventory of doo-dads that can be rented from them and came across these "Entrapping Collars":

These seem to be exactly what was used for the exploding collars in another Arnie flick - "The Running Man". :thumbsup

I love this movie and this prop. I'd love to see if it could be properly ID'd.

Here's the best ref I got. I forget where it was from though.

I'm tempted to say the whole thing looks like a mostly found object. Most of the props are pretty clunky and simple compared to this extractor.

Those look familiar. May be from my own archive. Not sure though.

Either way, it was on display at Planet Hollywood (South Lake Tahoe, I believe) in the 90's. But it wouldn't surprise me if it has long since been sold off by them.

My grandfather used to have the claw end device thingamajig. It's used for picking up dropped nuts and bolts that you cannot reach with your fingers. Push the plunger, out come the claws from the end of the spring.

I always thought the base was a super 8 camera. Now I'm not so sure. I mean, the handle sorta looks like it but not quite.

Really wild guess here : the whole thing gives me the impression of a major rework on a silicone gun (?).

Hello. Just for the record, I did not have anything to do with this prop. I only made the trackers and the holo watches according to Mr. Syd Mead's drawings.ED.

The extractor itself is a REALLY cheap grabber available at any home improvement store as a grabber. Generally $1.99
The machining on the grip is so simple, I can only imagine it is a machined part coupled with a bicycle caliper brake cable. I love this prop, but always laugh that the object removed from his nose is a fraction of the size of that stupid protective cover. What makes it even worse is the fact that the protective bit has a flat base and pointless radial flutes, apparently designed to cause unnecessary excruciating pain :-D
